b20 have different valves , im sure theyre shorter - the difference in the exhaust valves is minimal the size is a little different , im sure also the b20 has larger inlet valves .

sodium filled just allows the heat to transfer quicker up the stem into the valve guide , nowadays tho just good quality valves will be up to the job .

peugeot vlaves are pretty close for an upgrade , altho shorter will need lash caps if you regrind the cam .

hi

yep sodium for heat transfer ( also used as a coolant in nuclear fission reactors )

I recently read that the X40 ( S40 V40 ) N series engines ( prob the RN series also ) also use sodium filled valves for all the engines ( its not the outer coating! )... I wonder if the N series and RN for the 800 and X70 ( plus P2 cars ) also does.....

:)

I can imagine the green books volvo phrasing hee hee

"carefully drill a hole in the side of the valve. place ( rapidly ) the valves into a pre prepared bucket of water and then rapidly run away to a place a refuge ( eg behind a 740 )"

There was once an accident in my lab where someone put a little solid sodium down the sink drain

After someone washed up some glassware there was a rumbling from beneath the floor then wooooooooooooooooosh flames and water shot out the plug hole. as the sodium landed on the wet floor it continued to be on fire, setting someone's hair on fire ( he was pretty bald before this instant anyway! ) and smoking the floor.

eventful day at work!!!!!

Im surprised volvo suggest this really!
Enjoy your 300s

they try to avoid explosions in the smelting works by letting the sodium react in a 'controlled environment' (besides its fun for the mechanic)
