hi there,
This cars problem was the rear box had collapsed. A removing the exhuaust at the downpipe and the engine ran well albeit noisely!!
THe running rich problem - I tried a replacement carb ( a spare from foggy) and unfortunately whilst the car ran better, it kept cutting out.
The car would start from cold ok but wouldnt restart. A roadside spark test showed the spark to be a little weak.
Working through the Renix diagnostic pages of the B14 engine manaul ( to be added to this site) showed that the coil primary resistance was a little too high. A replacement (spare) coil was marginally better so was fitted. I'll post the specs later once I have the book with me.
The idle solenoid was also tested. live 9V feed at the plug, a good earth from the carb but no click from the solenoid when connected.
A replacement solenoid is in the process of being repaired (the one I have has no blade connector)
The car will then be off to be tuned and welded!!
Shimon
