Snap, three seperate policies too. Definitely speak to Chris Knott and spend a few quid to join the VOC, worthwhile.

We need to construct a detailed angine swap FAQ/wiki to nail all this good information down.

I think that will be very usefull!!
Maybe something like this is possible for more than just a engine swap. Maybe a sticky for those who want to fit twin carbs and things like that.....

Cool. We never got those in the UK. I guess it runs Motronic?

2.2 and 2.4 are versions of LH Jetronic, rather than Motronic. US cars ran LH2.2 instead of Motronic (smog spec engine with weaker cam, lower compression, and lambda control). I think the only euro models with LH2.2 were the V6 cars (although they didn't have lambda).

What can I tell you about it? A bit....what is it you want to know? It's not that good, and not very adaptable if you modify the engine. Ryan is making quite a bit of power on Motronic on his B230ET powered 740, but the fuelling isn't right, and the ignition curve is far from ideal. LH2.4 from a 940 is an upgrade...but (a bit) more fiddly to wire in.

cheers

Aha so good news and not so good news....was a bit confused because I wasn't expecting to find motronic....
I was wondering if the flywheel work would stil be needed, because of the sensor, haven't been able to find one though.
Would it be possible to fit carbs on the engine, in case I want more power and fidling with wires will be a problem?

You could fit carbs, but I really wouldn't. You can make 400whp on that intake system, so I'd not worry about upgrading just yet :)

The wiring is easy...just get a pin-out of the connectors, a wire colour chart, and remove everything you don't need. I think 360 Turbster said he ended up with only 10 wires or so! If the flywheel fits, you'll have to use it to get the right pattern. Other people are running Motronic, so I think you'll be in luck with fitment. I know where you can get a Motronic flywheel, but shipping from the UK will be pricey.

If this is to be an everyday car, I think you'll see a big fuel saving in changing to LH2.4 from a 940, but I understand that this might be intimidating from a wiring point of view.

cheers

Yes wiring is my main concern because trying this myself is a first timer for me.
Haven''t been able to locate the flywheel sensor fuse was talking about.
The only sensors I've found near my flywheel are, sorry don't know the correct translation BDP and ODP sensor, bottom dead point and upper dead point sensor or something like that.....

Just another question, you said that motronic isn't very good in coping witch more power. How much is to much, is was thinking of a doing something on the intake, exhaust manifold, descent downpipe maybe bit more fuelpressure and a bit more turbo pressure, I would like something like 180-200 HP max......can motronic handle this?

It will work...my housemate's car is making...well...enough power to keep up with a standard Scoob WRX STI. The problem is that Motronic is a pretty low-tech (and old!) system, and it won't give you the best fuelling....whether the engine is standard, and especially if the engine has been played with.

I'm probably scaremongering here a little...it will work...but it won't be ideal, and will use more fuel than an LH2.4 car would.

cheers

I think I will first get the engine in a good condition. After the engine is fitted and everything is running I will look for something else than motronic.. Maybe looking will start now, so when the engine will be fitted (summer 2007) I can do it all in one go......
