Well Volvo is part of the Ford group, so they can swap bits around if they wish, and there's no point developing two different engines to do the same thing. The Volvo engine is a great engine, so they just need to make it fit, and they have a fast Focus ST.
Why they make it at a Ford plant rather than just importing from Volvo at Sweden I don't know. Cost possibly, but you have to set up all the machining... I'd worry about quality. Have there been any issues with the Ford built ones?

Yeah I look at these too every now and again. Love em, but way too expensive!!Chris_C wrote:Cossie 190... yes please... when the non f*cked ones come down to a reasonable priceWhy is it anything under 4 figures has generally been wrapped round a tree at least 3 times?!?!
Ask Lizzie Pope about writing them off, although she did it into an armco not a tree

I know the new 6 cylinder lump is built in south Wales, but I didn't realise the 5-pot is...are you sure that's right Rupert?
The 5-pot is still essentially the same as the old T5 unit, so very much a Volvo design. In terms of the Focus ST, etc, it's all Volvo kit, with the software 'adjusted' by Ford...or so I'm told by someone who knows these things
I wouldn't go getting your pants in a bunch about quality on the 5-pot just yet....and I bet the new short 6-pot is just fine too (although a slag to work on, no doubt!)
cheers
James

i belive the 5-pot is fine, seeing as it's a tried and tested unit, but the 6 pot is having some issues - whether this is due to Ford build quality or just down to a new design I don't know.
As far as I'm aware the 'new T5' is built in Taffistan, but I'm not absolutely certain. It's not quite the old ripsnorting T5 we all know and love, it's more of a hybrid of the old T5 and the old 2.5LPT.

I think the 'new' 2.5 is a stroker version of the 2.3, not a bored out version, like the old LPT.

So it's a bit of both? Larger bore (with thicker liners), but not as wide as the B5254, with longer stroke to make up the difference? Now I come to think of it, I did read about the new 'R' engine being bigger bore than the 2.3s, and theoretically more susceptible to HG failure and liner cracking as a result of it...but assumed the R and 2.5T blocks weren't the same.

Found a rather heated debate on the B234 beastie Here on Turbobricks which might be of interest to some who haven't already seen (and contributed to) it

Haha....loving that thread. ACB is an idiot, and gets what he deserves.
If you look at a B234 or B204 inlet manifold, it's pretty obvious why there's a problem with it. It's similar to (but worse than) the K-Jet manifold.
cheers
