LSD Replacement
LSD Replacement
Went to another khana-x on the weekend, would have taken 1st in class except for a penalty on my 1st run that put me 45 seconds behind everyone... not good when the tracks only last 30-40 seconds, though by the end of the day i made up all but 18 seconds. I promised videos but my dad isn't too great with the camera, so i might have to get someone else to have a go in a fortnight at videoing me or i'll probably mount a camera on the roof or bonnet.
Anyway, i was doing a bit of reading round, curious as to what a locked diff was, and i saw a limited slip diff, and feel it would likely give me a slight edge out on the dirt/grass/oiled skidpan tracks. Also while browsing the web i noticed a few old reviews on aussie 360GLT's and 2-3 had mentions of LSD conversions (but no contact details.). As the Diff/Gearbox are one unit, and the local friendly transmission man doesnt want to gut my spare diff to alter it, he suggested finding a gearbox/diff off another volvo that has LSD and swapping it over.
Went to volvo with the question, the only lead they came up with was a 90 model 240 series which had an "Anti-Spin Diff"? I'm still looking to see if this is the same as LSD, so am wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any LSD units that fit the M47 5-spd gearbox.
Cheers,
Trent

I do have LSD, not installed yet, because I have no idea how and I have not yet found any garage that can
I have not seen more than 2 set of differentials on sale to 300-series car and I bought one of those.
What I have heard it is somewhat different from 200-series part. Of course it is possible to change differential from 200 series car, but it is quite big thing, also gearbox is needed to change and it surely has hard time at MOT then.
V360Cup rules state that LSD is not allowed and there is also mention that some swedish 360GLT have had it so Sweden is best place to look for one.
I have posted pics from my diff in here somewhere, try to search LSD

That link works better. I've not looked at 200 series boxes/diffs but i think that may be my best bet if they are anything similar to ours. Unfortunately volvo cant order any replacements (discontinued) and yes there are around 15-16 varients and none of the local scappers have any 200's with the LSD fitted.
I noticed the last post on that link, wonder how you'd go with gutting the internals on one of our diffs and replacing with something off a 700/900 that way... cause i have 2 spare gearbox/diffs... and the one on my car is in good nic so i doubt i'll be needing both anytime soon...

200-series has 1030 and 1031 rear axels, 1031 is bit stronger and more often with diff lock, it has been factory option and fitted mostly to Turbo's. Now I can't remember if it was Dana 36 that diff in 200-series, however almost all off-road shops sell diff locks to that model, it won't fit to 300-series

Meh, it'd be nice to know where these folks got 300 lsd's from then...

JTBO's is clearly the 'clutch type' you've labelled there.
So Bilbo IS Janitor's new sign in!
Are those still for sale?
cheers

hmm castrol b373 for the clutch type and a branded normal for powerlock.i was told by a friend powerlocks run standard oil not lsd oil,and ive had no problems (over short miles),so im not 100% sure.
Castrol B373
Mineral based extreme pressure gear oil which combines limited slip performance with excellent load carrying ability.
It is particularly suitable for use in limited slip differentials fitted to Race or Rally competition vehicles
