Heya folks sorry to start up a new thread. What are the 1.4 engines like? Manual choke? Is it easy to get used to? Havent had a manual choke 4 ages.
Are they completly gutless or do they go ok? I can afford a 16v powered one at the mo so i want a tidy 1.4 340 as a base to put a 16v in in the future.
Any help appreciated.
Dan

1.4's have a manual choke and it's easy to get used to. when the engine is in good condition there's plenty of power, unfortunatly the number of up-to-spec B14's are slim and most purchases will definatly require work to get there. i've had a stock B14 in my drifter for the last autumn/winter and on dry tarmac i could still driftin 3rd gear on 195 wide tyres and welded diff.
but in the end, the very best up to spec B14 won't match the powerband of the 1.8 or 2.0 16v´s on their worst day, if you have the budget; i'd go for the 16v straight away.

I own one at the mo. Its fine. A little bit harder in the cold, just half choke for a bit to get it flowing. 70BHP when new, so around fifty now (guess) It drifted fine in the wet with an open diff and the skinny tyres. However if you going to valve it, I think I've said before in another thread you asked, that the 1.7 will be a more suitable start for converting it, as most of the bits needed are already present on the 1.7 (bellhousing, sump etc). I'm currently converting my 1.4 to a valver, and you need a lot of the 1.7 parts, as the 1.4 obviously doesn't have 1.7 bits. They are all findable, but it took a little time, and obviously a bit more money too.
