Hi guys picked up a F7R this morning and appears to be chain driven and also doesnt have a distributor.
I have the ECU and loom will this all go in my 1.7 340 easy?
I was told it was from a Clio williams but now i'm not so sure

Ohhh dear, I think you've bought a 172 engine or similar. Basically the 2nd(/3rd?) generation F7R. They work fine apart from I don't think the chain driven oil pump clears the 1.7 sump. I'm not sure entirely how serious this is or if you can do a modification around this.
And... easy? No engine change is ever easy. I'm still ironing out the creases after over a year

Is the oil pump driven via a chain? If not it's an F7R 710 if you have chain driven pump it's an F7R 714.
If it's a 710 the cylinder head won't work easily in the 340. Although a 1.8 head can be converted to fit with the bigger inlet valves.

I believe the 710 runs coil pack distributorless ignition. This makes the wiring harder. A 1.8 head can be fitted to make what the renault boys call a hybrid. I'd say buy megajolt ignition and run carbs.

The hybrid route is ace, apart from buying dizzy's from Renault. Will need to find a better way of doing that :s
The advantage of running the stock stuff is the info is out there to map it.

Got to be less than 80 quid too, cheers mate.
I keep getting tempted by something like an EDIS pack fired from the Renault ECU, EDIS's are cheap as anything.

Could it not be the Megane lump? That has a chain driven oil pump, and requires the crossmember and sump to be chopped about a bit. Ask Filthy John, he had one made.
Maybe I am wrong ^ I should let you boys work out which Renault engine it is, as I have little knowledge, and less interest.
Hope you get sorted mate!

Ok so basically chuck the head away and get a 1.8 16v from an early clio, what else is needed from that to run on the injection?

714 is a late megane engine. Indeed I had one in my 340, it needed a new driver's side front engine mount making, and a big chunk cutting out of the crossmember, but it went in.
