Hi Everyone,

Just as my post yesterday about the B14 - What are the average mpg experienced from the 1.7 340?

It would be roughly 20miles a day in two 10mile journeys mainly on a dual carriageway.

Thanks everyone.

Matt.

Just shy of 30mpg normally, 35 on a run. They almost always do mid 20s though due to knackered carbs.

Oh right, thanks for that Speedy! :D will bare it in mind when looking for a 340... B14 sounds better for economy.

Thanks again.

Matt.

Rule of thumb 1.4 is the most efficient engine, 360 engine next and then 1.7 last.

Sceney...

I'd disagree with the above by a country mile. Most economical 1.7, then 1.4/360 carb then 360 injection. Assuming they are running right, which they won't be.

Reliability is pretty much the reverse. 360 injection, 1.4/360 carb ........ a big pause............ and then some more....... 1.7.

*If* you know the 1.7 and it's specialties, it's the one to go for, for economy, for balance, the lot. If you don't mind spending an hour or so a month giving it a bit of love, which most people will mind and therefore either buy them and hate them forever or just avoid.

i used to get 32-40mpg around town almost 48 (think i beat it on paiage )on motorway with no stops or traffic jam-age

servicing ftw

key is feeling when second butterfly opens and knowing not to go past that point, 80mph possible if your careful.
