Cam swap - later B200K = Y cam!

I started the day with this on the shelf...
And ended it with this on the shelf...
Which is interesting, as it was not known what cam a later B200K had. Haynes said L throughout, but Y is also listed on a couple of websites. The green book says nordic markets only for the (hotter) Y cam, but I had a sneaking suspicion that the green book was wrong, and all markets got it after they lowered the compression from 10.5:1 to 9.2:1 around 1987. It seems I was right
As an aside...hows this for clean innerds at 130k miles? Maybe that's normal, but it still took me by surprise.
cheers

Nice work
I starts to pull rather different after 2500 and not stopping until renix limiter kicks in
I guess you have not used Mobil 1 oli in your engine as it looks so clean?

Nice one Foggy, whens the tuning session then?

To me, it feels very similar...but the carbs are badly tuned, and I've only driven it about half a mile, so I can't make that kind of judgement yet. However, it's clear from putting the carbs on that the main powerband restriction was the CISAC carb, not the cam.
The tuning session is as soon as myself and Husky can work out a mutually convenient time...he's at Run To The Sun this weekend...the git

I came accross a K-cam today and i bought it. It's coming to my home this week.
Is it hard the change the cam? I reckon when you losen the bolts the valve springs pop the cam out? It there some method to do this swap the right way, or does someone have any tips?

I've found the article, is really nice written. But there's one thing, i can't really make up from the article how the cam can be taken out without the possibility of damaging it. May be you can give a tip how to do it?
Also how the new cam has to be tightened when putting it back. Where to start with putting back the nuts and brackets?

You won't damage it
Which order to put them in in? I'm not sure there is one, but make sure you put #1 and #5 bearing caps on first, then #3, then 2 and 4...or something like that! Don't go 1,2,3,4,5, as you'll run the risk of snapping the cam.

foggy - question....
hmm you had a y and replaced for k !
on t'bricks they mention a,b,h,k,vx and t ! no mention of "M" grind cam shaft from a b23 or b230 engine or any others - are they refering to cams for specific engines ? if so what cams would fit B19's ? ive been looking at a cam which is listed for :
240,242 GT, 244, 245,360 GLT, GLE. B19E,21E,F.
would the f mean its a f grind ? if so is this just a stnd b19 cam ?
also why dont you buy some 40 DCOE Webers and be done with your carbs ? i know just the man to sell you some......

I'm thinking about using carbs on mine. So you know of any twin 40s or similar on a Volvo manifold please let me know

Fixing the ones I have is part of the fun

For how much longer it's fun remains to be seen... I also like the fact that they're original spec. Just out of interest, what do you want for yours? I'd run 45s on the B230 Carl.
Regarding cams...the F is as in B21F, not the cam grind.
All 8v redblock cams fit all engines, however 360 and 240 cams (and early 760 turbo ones, if we're being fussy) don't have the drive slot for the head-mount dizzy on a 7/940.
The stock cams to look for on scrappers are (in ascending order of niceness)...A, VX, V, K, H. There are others, but you *won't* find them. 'A' is in a 360 injection, some 240s, and 700 turbos with the B230ET. VX is aftermarket from iPd, or found in an NA 940 with the B230FB. V is in all NA injection 740s, and many NA injection 240s. K and H are in early 240 GLTs (pre 83). K was also in the 343 R-Sport....which is actually where mine came from - a scrap B19RS in Barnsley! Random or what...?!

TBH I'm not sure what I want. It's a bit naughty but I like the idea of some twin 40s - I think these would be more than adequate to run a 2.3 8v on a k cam. However twin 45s would be good too. If some came up (40 or 45s) for a good price I'd probably snap them up.
But they dont come up very often (well, the manifolds that is), in which case it's either MS or 940 ECU/loom.

You can buy the manifolds any time you want for £150, and a set of Dellortos will set you back the same from ebay. There's a guy constantly selling rebuilt ones there.

ooooooh, that sounds interesting. Where would I get these manifolds from then? Are they just for the Dellortos?
