im having some problems with my cvt and was just wondering what my options were if it turns out to be beyond cost-effective repair:
as a last resort i was looking at maybe swaping the cvt transmission for a standard auto gearbox:
anyone know if this can be done and if so how big of a job it is??
cheers

Re: cvt to standard auto box?
Switching to a conventional automatic gearbox would be a major job. The gearbox will have to go where the current transmission unit it (under the boot) and would require sourcing a suitable differential to mate it to and manufacturing adapter plates for everything. It would definitely be easier to fix the CVT regardless of what is up with it!
Converting it to a manual box would be a much more realistic option, you would need to get the clutch & flywheel, bellhousing, pedal box, propshaft, gearbox and diff unit, gear linkage and whatever else I've missed from a 1.4 manual car, but it would all bolt together.
