F7P Wiring

Post by billkent22 » 30 Aug 2011 03:24 pm

Hello,

Firstly I want to appologise if i sound thick in anyway or if this is a re-post!

I have a few questions relating to the wiring loom part of the F7P conversion into my 340
I am not using Adams plug and play loom btw as i want to have a go at this myself and anyway how hard can it be, right :? ? lol

From what i have seen while searching on the site people remove all the wiring not used, again appoligise if this sounds stupid but i was going to plug it all in as it is and whatever i dont use either leave it and tape it up or cut it off. Other than the fuel pump and a few other bits that would have to be spliced in?

Got the engine in today!

So next step is the wiring. I just need to try and find what wire is for what on the ranult loom and then find out what parts of the volvo loom i need to cut into, there dosent really seem to be much volvo loom tho!?

You pretty much need most of the F7P loom, all sensors etc. Connecting it to the Volvo loom required things like power, ignition, ground, rev counter, oil light etc. The F7P coil goes onto the old Renix plugs

It's not horrible, best thing to do is lay it on top of the engine (well, when the engine is out it's even easier ;) Plug everything in, then you can work out what the other wires do. www.retro-renault.com have a good F7P ECU plug pinout

Black plug seems to be where the loom connects to the car, i.e power in, oil pressure and rev counter out... I *think*. They certainly arn't present in my loom, but it was a while ago I made mine!

Im guessing from that plug im taking the red(Live) yellow(ignition?) and white(which seems to bea earth?!)

And tapping into the volvo loom to find the relevant ones, however i dont know how many relays i need or what each one is for!? Bloody nightmare seeing as there is just NO diagrams online (ive spent hours looking)!

Right ive gone and chopped the loom to bits to get only what i need sorted!

Ive plugged in all the plugs into the sensors and just have wires to soulder back up to the main ECU multiplug.
Just wanna check a few things:

I only have ONE 3 pin plug plugged into the renix atm, is that right?
I assume i plug the volvo wiring into the Volvo water temp sender that removed from the old lump?
I have worked it out that i have TWO relays; Fuel pump and ECU is this right (i have used both brown ones)??
Also i take it the realys have their own power source (live, ign and earth?) which i get direct from the volvo loom which runs along the bulkhead and past the wiper motor.

Bill

I really appreciate peoples help on here btw,
Thank you!

There is a switched ignition to the ECU and then the ECU fires the fuel pump relay. Can't remember what fires the other relay off hand though, so maybe my answer to (3) is wrong...

I'm calling the thing that looks a bit like a Renix, but doesn't have vacuum feed, a coil pack. With a dizzy you still need this bit. The difference between it and the Renix is the renix is a self contained ECU, the coil pack is a slave triggered by the F7x ECU.

The single wire in 2pin plug is erm.. I forget now ;) Brown and black stripey...

No I that is nothing to do with the engine, I think it is something to do with the wipers. The coil pack thing looks just like a 1.4/1.7 Renix but doesn't have the vacuum connection on the bottom of it. It has three plugs which look outwardly the same as the Renix but have different connections. The Renault coil pack will bolt has the same hole pattern as the Renix and would bolt onto the same place on the NS chassis rail if the inlet manifold wasn't in the way.
