I have volvo 360 GLS with B200K engine and I use LPG
for LPG it is very good to hurry ignition for about 5 degrees but how I understand this car has Hall sensor on the flywheel and it is not possible to do anything :( or maybe I am wrong ?

Oh it would be possible, Though i wouldnt bother with advancing the timing unless the engine is suffering pre-ignition. Whoever said that its good to advance the timing, did they give a reason, as the only reason i acknowledge for advancing ignition is to prevent pre-ignition. I could possibly believe advancing the timing so that the mixture can burn for longer but I dont know how much faster/slower LPG burns over petrol.

If you do find a way to adjust it, make sure you can revert to the old settings cause if it doesnt do what you want it to, its good to know how to get back to what works.

maybe someone can explane how to advance ignition ?

I think that I need to rotate distributor for a few degrees

will take any effect this procedure for the ignition ?

I want just try this idea...

of course if here will be anything wrong I will take everything back

renix:
only possible way to readjuct ignition is to move crank sensor. it can be done, if you can customise the sensor. the two holes must be not round, but must allow to move the sensor!
best choise: ignition system with hall-sensor or contact breakers! you can readjust ignition setting any time!

Hi,

Posting on behalf of my dad who has an 86 360GLT with a B200E engine. It has a "flat spot" which only occurs during hotter conditions so it seems. We are trying to find information relating to the Renix igntion system of the B200E and cannot find much at all.

Dad mentioned several times the timing cannot be advanced in this car and that the problem is hard to diagnose as the computer doesn't have a memory and the problem doesn't occur all the time. He's a mechanic, and I know nothing of cars so make of that what you will.

We would really appreciate anyone who could offer some info, or assistance! Thanks muchly in advance.

OT dad's owned this car for almost two years now. Its previous owner was an elderly woman who always kept it garaged. When purchased it only had 24,000km on the clock! It's now up at about 35,000km. Dad considered it quite a find.

I'm no injection expert, so I can't give you any useful advice really...but the Renix units supposedly have a reputation for failing. I carry a spare of both the unit itself, and the crank angle sensor in the boot. Maybe worth investigating?

Does the condition of the plugs tell you anything?

I'm suspicious that it's a sensor fault, or maybe a dirty throttle body. The air mass meter (AMM) is a favourite for going, although I'm not sure which of the air sensors the B200E 360 uses....might not be an AMM at all! Either way, worth checking. Maybe check the throttle position switch too?

cheers

I was just reading through the haynes manual before I dived headlong into advancing my B200e ignition, apparently the B200E should be 12 deg BTDC and the B200k should be 15 deg BTDC (+-2 degrees)
if i'm reading this correctly then this one should be able to run 14deg.(b200e) or 17deg.(b200k) of advance on unleaded fuel without pinging. Does this sound right?

Not sure if you can say that for certain, lonewolf. I`ve always found that ignition adjustments tend to be more of a "suck it and see" type of thing - you may find that pinking occurs depending on things like brand of fuel that you are using.

The manufacturers figures will be conservative in that they will be set at a level that most cars will be OK on given tolerances in manufacture of the engine, ignition components etc. A bit of experimentation to find your own "sweet spot" is sometimes worthwhile

Give it a try!

That said, if you are moving to unleaded fuel, all the work I`ve done with cars have involved retarding rather than advancing the ignition for unleaded.

i suppose with fuel qualities it would be a bit of playing around, my car already drinks unleaded but i only give it premium, so i figured i could get away with maybe 2 degrees more than normal.

I went and got the timing light today and some spark plugs, the plugs are indexed, but i feel stupid, i cant remember which one is cylinder one, also i'm not sure of where the timing mark is on our engines.

I was talking to a tuning guy (ie: maintainance, not performance) the other day...he says the Renix unit *can* be adjusted, and he even has the programmer to do it. Interesting...

cheers
