Engine swap b200 to b230f POWER!!

Hi all,
Ive got the opportunity to pick up a Volvo 360 in great shape dead cheap.

Only problem is, that the water pump is gone, so it could have big issues
I originally wanted a 240, because of the legendary b230F, but think the 360's could be great too.
Is a B230F drop in possible? I want to drift this car, and would be putting a turbo kit on it too.
How are the stock b200s? Is there a lot of room for modifications, turbos? or would a b230 swap be a better option?
Thanks!

A B230 would give you the extra cc's and does have a fair bit more poke.
If your donor engine has the rear mounted dizzy on the head then you will need to swap the intermediate cam shaft over to use the side dizzy.
You also need the 360 water pump. As yours has gone you will need a new one available from me here

Turbo power is also an option and has been done.

Is it a well documented swap? I haven't been able to find much at all!
I was hoping for an easy swap

Very very easy swap. The engines are the same other than some bolt on parts.
The 360 water pump is slightly shorter hence the need to change it.
There are 2 distributor systems used on that family of engine. Changing from one to the other is fairly simple when you have both engines available.
You could not ask for a more simple swap.

Not sure why B230F are lengendary, B2xx are generally legendary. The B230FT in the 94-on 940 is a fairly standard turbo swap and has extra strength for tuning.
There are plenty of threads but admittedley hard to find as the search does not like the word 'turbo'.
With a B230FT You need to fab an exhaust, a right engine mount and find a solid flywheel for the EZK ignition (although that might be avoidable). There are a few other bits and pieces that need swapped over.
The biggest difficulty is transplanting the engine management wiring as its well built into the 940.

Is it worth the swap?
I mean, The 2.3 Litre engines DO have more power

B230FT (turbo) comes with 165 BHP standard and 200 with a little extra boost (and still reliable as long as you don't let it cook on WOT for minutes trying to do top speed). Its fairly easy to max out the 360 drive shaft with about 250BHP.

+1. They're really quite rapid in a lighter car. I have one sitting in storage until I find the right car to drop it in

Turbos are great but a stock B230E makes 140BHP and with a good exhaust, H cam and 45 webbers you are looking around 180BHP+
With some good porting and more aggressive cam very good power can be made. NA power might be less destructive for the driveline

I honestly didn't know it was quite that much! 180 on carbs is incredible from a NA redblock.

Pretty sure GLT is injected. I've had MY86, 87, 86, 89 all injected and had an 86 GL that was carbed so I'm pretty sure GLT's are all injected.

I'd agree with that, GLTs always injected all parts of the world. Sometimes non-GLT or non-GLEi is injected outside UK, but never the other way. In the 80s i=sporty for most mfrs, Volvo went with GLT.

T is for Touring.
E for injection (german)
