340 1.4 manual, rattle from bell housing area.

Hi all.

I've recently got a 1986 1.4 340 manual back on the road. It runs and drives fine, (although the clutch will need doing within the next few thousand miles I suspect) but it's got a rattle from the bell housing/propshaft area when I push the clutch to change gear.

It's only done 500 miles since its been back in use, but it only made the rattle when I pressed the clutch and engaged a lower gear, particularly 1st as I came to a stop. Now it rattles every press of the clutch when I'm changing gear and it's getting worse. Sat at idle in neutral it's barely noticeable.

Just wondered if anybody has had any experience of this and could offer any advice?!!

Cheers.

Well shortly after posting that the car broke. Haven't looked yet and will need a tow home, but sounds like the shaft the prop sits on or the inside of the prop has lost its teeth :-(

Most likely the inside of teh prop. If its only one end dont bin the prop as these are getting to the stage where one good prop can be made from two bad uns

Yes it is one end, but it's done the shaft into the bell housing too. Looks like it's been well on its way before I got the car. Been lucky to get 300 miles out of it.
