1.4 engine swap in progress

Hey guys, doing my engine swap at the moment.

Being a bloody nightmare due to rounded downpipe bolts and the fact I cant get the grinder into the tunnel to cut the old prop off..

Is there any way to get the bellhousing off the engine, or just disconnecting it, while the engine is still in the car so I can drag the engine out and just let the prop drop?

Cheers

Why would you cut the prop? Especially when they are nigh on impossible to find in decent condition as most have been snapped.

My prop has been really badly welded to the output shaft by the previous owner... sm2

So if, as I am told by you lot, the renix just needs a live and an earth, what is this little black box that its wired to?

It looks suspiciously like an immobiliser, it was bolted up by the wiper motor.

It says VOLVO 209 472 on one side,

and SOLEX 18152 001 then 89 05 01 under that on the other side..

I will assume I need it.... But I would very much like to know what it is please.

Hey man, I think it is a relay for the idle-cutoff solenoid.

Cheers dude.

Its wired into the brake fluid reservoir cap too, does this sound right? Can I sack it off?

I am assuming the orange wire out of the Renix to the alternator negative is the live?

Just nicked the whole engine bay loom from the donor.

Actually started it today!! Just need to find somewhere to mount the Renix, and wrap up the loom again and then I will be back on the road!

Because I changed the loom the wiper motor is different.

How do I get these off please?

EDIT: Dont worry, you guys told me on the facebook.. lol

Engine is all swapped, and its drivable again now

but there is a couple issues, like it wont run off choke and I have no water temp gauge..
Cant remember what you guys said about the only running on choke thing before..

Apart from that it goes pretty well now :)

Hello, does the carb have an idle solenoid and if so, is it connected? That should cure the idle issue...

It does have one and it is connected, it seems to have got a lot better after running it today, but the idle does scramble pretty wildly when its cold, and it will still only run with loads of choke on..

Changed the oil and filter today, and I think the new filter leaks, which is a pain in the backside..

Also, it seems to leak from the carb too, and when I got back and opened the bonnet to look for the oil leak, it was smoking quite a lot from the manifold side.. I'm not sure if that was just the gasket sealant from the downpipe, but I am a tad worried about it leaking from the carb onto the manifolds and setting itself on fire... That would just about sum up my luck with this damn car!! (buying extinguisher first thing tomorrow..) Will try and get a pic of the problem in the daylight if I remember.

Does the idle solenoid click when you connect and disconnect the wire with the ignition on. No click = not working. Oil leak could be from the rocker cover - a new gasket will cure it. Don't know about oil filter leaks, sorry!!

oh I dont know, I will check that, thank you :) I think I will swap the carb out for the new one I bought off CS as this one is leaking what seems to be oil on the manifold, and it was smoking quite a lot when I got back last night! Definite fire hazard I think.. :(

One of my wrecks has had oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold for a couple of decades and it doesn't catch fire - just smokes, but I agree its not ideal ~{^¿^}~
