Does a 340 1.7 gearbox bolt right on a Volvo 440 1.8 engine?

300 series gearboxes don't bolt onto any engine, they are at the other end of the prop shaft attached to the diff at the back of the back.
You need to say what you are trying to do.
AFAIK a 340 clutch housing will fit a 440 engine.

I have a 340 without a engine.
So i was think on swapping a 440 or 480 turbo engine into him.

Yeah it should be possible but I think you need other bits such as a 340 1.7 sump, some sort of bearing thats missing in the FWD engine. And you need to make sure all the engine mounts and gearbox/diff mounts are in top condition.
Not something I've done though.

Yes I've done the swap, you do need a fair bit off the 340 1.7 engine to do it. If the engine is completly missing there is a fair list of parts you need
