CVT belt cleaning.

Can anybody suggest what I should use to clean my belts and pullies?

In my wisdom I decided to pressure wash the secondary drive unit and oily cover while I washed the car. I'm convinced I just sprayed oily water onto the belts and pulleys and now it just doesn't sound the same. The belts seem noisier and I'm sure there's like a dry bearing, metal on metal sound!!

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I would suggest to use a detergent - an industrial cleaner, go get rid of any oil on the disks and the belts.
Then let dry.

You could try to clean by hand using break cleaner, but this removes all grease and wax.
So I would only apply it to the chromed parts and the belts.

My CVT is coated with wax on the outside, so I would not remove the wax, or it will start rusting.

I would also check the for the unusual sound of the bearing. Maybe you pressed water into the gear housing.
You could have wracked a seal...
Just move the belts in N-position by hand.

Good luck
