Can't change gear

As per title. The 360 gear-change died today so it was brought back by the AA on the back of a lorry ;-0

Anyone know anything about the base of the gear lever?? Its was incredibly loose but I couldn't see anything wrong apart from the fact that the rubber seal with the chassis beneath the two gaitors had given up the ghost.

Ullo John, sounds like this:

The weld cracks on the linkage and unfortunately they're right. You can fix it from above by cutting the tunnel, but might not want to do that!

Thanks, yes, I don't want to cut another hole in the floor, the tinworm has made too many already ;-0
I was waiting for a quote for the work but got cheesed-off and went round to see them. I said "Look is it going to be about £600 or something?" and he said "No, it shouldn't be that much!". Fffffmff. He deffo needs more training.

It should be terrible for them if they have a lift, I've not done it myself but there may even be enough room to lower the drivetrain to get at the linkage rather than remove it completely

Hello,
got it back for £531 and it seems OK apart from usual post-garage exhaust banging ;-0 ;-0.

Just needs bit of fettling. Anyone know how to remove the plastic tray on the chassis below the two gear lever gators?? Will dig around tomorrow after re-aligning the exhaust ;-0

Ta jc

Ouch Jon, that sounds a sore one.
Did they have to drop the gearbox/torque tube etc ?
Sounds like a bit of a nitghtmare job for a 360 owner :(

Sorry I can't advise about the plastic tray but will watch with interest in case I ever need to know the detail!
Cheers Dave

Hello again. I couldn't see much from under the car but it looks like they undid the side bolts on the gear box. Exhaust adjusted OK. Just got to sort the broken rubber seal of the gear lever with the chassis. The plastic tray is held on with dodgy little pegs that you can tap out and, not abso sure yet, one screw which has to be undone from underneath.

The plastic frame came out in the end. What I thought was a screw was just another peg that is circular rather than rectangular!

Bit of pigeon-poo welding on view, too {°¿°}

Glad you managed to get it sorted :)

Thank you, yes, it's coming back together with Gorilla tape instead of the original rubber moulded seal which was broken. Just want a bit of waterproofing at that point in case I have to drive through floodwater again!

The plastic frame went back OK and I even managed to tap in the retaining pegs to about the right depth!

The reversing light switch now refitted and I even greased the ball joint!!

Talking of floodwater, there was a bloke talking at the local baptist church and he said that back in the 60's in Africa, he had a Cortina and the way to get it along flooded roads was to turn-off the engine, open the doors so it filled-up with water and didn't float away, then get some locals to help push it through!!

Good pics there, that seal is slightly past its best!
Looks similar to inner tube material, maybe an old car inner tube could be cut up to suit ?
Gorrilla tape should be good though.
The story of the Cortina sounds like one of the Top Gear Specials from a few years ago !

Cheers, for your kind words. I was going to use that bit of pigskin but decided on gorilla tape in the end ;-0

Should be going back into everyday use tomorrow....
