M46 Overdrive gearbox available?

Hi All,
I'm totally new to this forum, a Volvo enthusiast, Volvo employee, classic car enthusiast, and a dutch guy living in Sweden, so what could be more fitting then owning a 340/360

I'm hoping to buy one after a settled down and bought a house or apartment.
I read on the swedish wikipedia page of the 340/360 that the 2 liter models were available with the M46 Overdrive gearbox (with button on the gear shifter) from Spring 1982. I have a hard time believing that, I have never heard about it. It also doesn't make sense since the overdrive gearbox is longer, and from the introduction of the 340/360 series the M47 5-speed was available.
Anyone have any verified information on this?
Thanks!
Raymond

Hello, I have not heard of that before and I can't see how it would fit so, like you, I think it must just be a mistake. Cheers, Jon.C.

By the way, for the 'tech nerds' out here...
There's a guy here in Sweden who's made a "M48", a 6 speed (5+OD) by combining the M47 with an M46 OD! Search for DieselPacko on Yt, he took it for a testdrive in his latest video.
But it gets even better.... he has converted a B230K to a diesel engine! No joke, he has used the pre chambers from a Mercedes diesel engine (so it's indirect injection) and adapted to fit in the spark plug holes, adjusted compression, made a drive for the diesel pump, put a turbo on it etc... No room for glow plugs in the head so he used a coolant heater to pre-warm the engine. Incredible job, I think!
I have great respect for this guy who not only seems to know what he's doing but gets it done aswell. Not many people around who are equally good at 'thinking' and 'doing'.

i remember reading about this as well actually. But I concluded with that it was just some sort of misinformation. All available gearboxes here in Sweden to my knowledge is the m45r and the m47r mk1 and mk2. I am also a swede and if you need tip for buying certain parts you can ask me, I've managed to gather some good sources so far. And I also remember seeing some swedes talking on some forum about taking the overdrive and installing it on the m47. Maybe it is something that is possible if you are a true mechanical genius.

Now that I am going through some old volvo forums I keep reading about "m46r". ANd I know that for volvos transmissions the R stands for rear, and it has the electric overdrive. I can only find people commenting about it on volvo 240 turbo and 740 turbo, is it some special gearbox they used? But it feels off because if it really is a "rear" gearbox how would they fit it in these? I feel like I would have read something about rear transmission 240s and 740s if this was the case.
