heli coil

Post by Vart » 17 Nov 2005 03:33 am

evening,

after getting irritated with my 1.7, i'm returning to my 1.4. it however needs to have its spark threads repaired. i was wondering if anyone knows how much and how effective heli coils are. is it worth having it done properly too?

also

how easy is replacing carbs? getting most irate about my choke not working....

regards

Heli coil is the standard way....highly effective from what I understand.

Carb swap is dead easy. Four bolts, a few hose clamps, and a new gasket set for the base.

cheers

The heli coil will probably made it stronger than orriginal.
Get it done and dont worry anymore about it.

As far as I'm aware, it looks rather like 10-20 keyrings joined together - A thin tube, threaded inside and out.

Yup, it´s a threaded insert which virtually increases your screw-diameter.

It is like a coil spring in a way.
It is used to make thread repairs and somtimes in production.
You drill and tap the threaded hole aot to the next size, then you screw the heli coil in. This will allow you to screw the original size bolt in.
