b14 -> b18ft engine swap
b14 -> b18ft engine swap
Hi
I've bought a '92 460 turbo and want to put the engine in my '87 340DL with b14
I read that the propshaft has to be modified, is this because it is too weak, or is it cause it won't fit? And how can I fix this problem?
Also, will the rest of the drivetrain handle the increase of power and torque?

You may be able to get away with not modding the prop but are going to need bits from a 1.7 to make the engine fit.

You will need the Sump , bellhousing ,clutch plate and engine mounts from the 1.7. You will need to retain the turbo flywheel clutch pressure plate and renix unit.
There are a number of existing threads on this subject posted by huskyracer with the turbo engine and myself with the 2ltr conversion most of which is the same.

Prop is usually replaced on strength grounds, but I'd be tempted to change it anyway, as the 340 one is a crappy design.
Husky was telling me at the weekend that he just found out his prop was rated about about 100ftlb of torque LESS than he's putting through it! Oops! Silly people assuming 300s will be low powered...
cheers
James

That is for all 300's as the throttle body is pointing at the bulhead on the later mpi manifolds.
