I still havent been able to drive my car (4 days till test

) but my mum and dad have and they have a 2 small problems
1) When you are cruising along at around 50mph the car seems to just "rock" (best way i can think to describe it) occasionally, just once or twice and only when it feels like it hot or cold.
2) When rolling up to a junction or roundabout the car will just stall (and i dont think it mums driving

) again only occasionally, i think this could have something to do with the inlet manifold because the Ecometer doesn't always work and (if i remember rightly) that works on the pressure from the manifold
I want to get the car off the road ASAP to get this fixed before i start racking up the miles so HELP

Does the econ move to red when it is cutting out? Or does the econ just randomly move? You've definately got an airleak there... I think the method for hunting out a vacuum leak is to squirt WD40 along suspect areas, and it the revs go up, you've found it. Did it do this before you fitted the econ?
As to the rocking, I'm afraid I can't help you, is it when the cars going straight or round a bend?

Yeah cos it a "special" one.
The gauge is a different one to the one shown in the manual so im not quite sure how it works but it sometimes just stays where it is when you start it and other times it move around, its very random like last nigh, it was the first time ive seen the needle move to the 12 O'clock position

Definate air leak somewhere then mate! Someone will confirm if its the WD40 trick to use, I have never done it myself.

Could be a dodgy gauge too.
Things to check...
Manifold to downpipe attachment
Carb base & breather system for vacuum leaks
Fuel supply (filter condition and float height, for example)
The misfire and the stalling will be the same fault.
Which engine is this again?
cheers

Is it a 1.4? If so then follow Hugh's post up there (the FFS one

) If its a 1.7, then check for an air leak, with engine idling, in well ventilated area, spray WD-40 or wave an unlit blowlamp round the carb base and inlet manifold area. If the engine suddenly runs better, you've found the air leak.
Once its located post back and let us know where it is, but if its in the baseplate of the carb, you'll need another carb from somewhere, scrappy is a possibility, but all the 1.7 carbs warped their bases, bad design, so check carefully for warpage using a straight edge. You may be able to get a machine shop to remachine the base to reflatten it if the warping isn't too bad.
