B230ft questions

Post by hatch360 » 08 Jul 2006 02:12 am

Ive been hearing that the b230ft turbo engine fits in the 360. is it an easy job? Do you just take out the b200e engine and put in the b230ft turbo one? Or do you have to buy different parts to fit it in :?:

BTW has anyone done this to their car

Thanks

It will fit in. :P You'll need a flywheel, oil sump and oil pump from B200E, those are different. Also there might be clearance issues with turbo and engine mount. Turbo might be able to fit in place if you rotate the compressor side but it's tricky with the oil return line. Of course you can make a custom exhaust manifold so the turbo will fit or you can modify the engine mount. Budget solution is a 45-90 degree adapter pipe between the stock manifold an the turbo, not so pretty and doesn't do good for exhaust flow but it will work. :P

There are some different turbo setups in 300-series:

I think it was quite lot harder to fit turbo to RHD models ?

So have you done that to your car fuse?

Would it be easier to fit a stock b230 engine from a 240 series

Nope, my engine is based on 360 B200E and turbo and other stuff are added on that.. :P I didn't built it by my self, the car was built in somewhere late 80's. I bought it two years ago. Nowadays if I would start to build a turbo 360, I would choose a complete turbo engine from a bigger Volvo as those are around for cheap price. :P

It would be pretty much a same job putting in a B230 from 240, oil sump, oil pump and flywheel would be needed from 300-series engine in that case too. Of course turbo clearance wouldn't be an issue in NA engine, but other stuff would be pretty much same.
