obviously most people on here know what i'm planning, i have asked questions about the engine, propshaft, suspension but seem to have missed the most important part, the brakes, some people on here have gone for some very mad conversion but is there an 'easy' solution?? as ever any help would be appricaited.
cheers

Yes there is an easy solution. Replace ALL brake parts with new ones, and you`ll see how much your brakes are improved

I mean discs, pads, hoses, etc...

That and putting in some Fedoro or Mintex brake pads that can make quite a lot of difference, also there is some grooved discs available, but I doubt if they can do too much as even they would help to get brakes operate bit hotter next problem is wheel bearings.
Because of 360 hub design bearings will get really hot with discs and you know what happens to grease when it is heated enough?
Also if you are going to track you should loosen front bearing a bit so that it does not self destruct...
I had braked fade with stock pads after two hard braking, pedal was ok, but all braking power did come from rear, at front pads did turn to coal, but after I switched to Fedoro I can do 4-5 hard braking, but brake fluid starts to boil after that so pedal goes to floor, but there is not much brakes, should change fluid, just been too lazy for that...
So if you like to get easy that is way to go, but then there is harder ways, however I have seen none of them proven, except Ali's conversion

would it not be possible to use the front brakes off of the 740??? or am i just being silly??? as with vauxhalls you can use cavalier brakes on a nova...would the same principle not apply here??? or has no-one ever tried?

wont work easily. best bet for a very easy upgrade tbh is find/buy a pair of early 340 calipers which had opposed twin pots not single sliding calipers.
Adam
Oh and jtbo i think you meant 'Adam' not Ali!!

Oh yes, sorry about that, I'm terrible with names, reason I don't use them
I got even offical document from my memory at beginning of summer when I went to see doctor, it says my memory sucks, but you have to play what you have

yeah, before you go upgrading anything, give the brakes a full service. Change the fluid, give them a good cleanup and replace any worn bits and make sure the calipers are moving freely in their runners and the pistons slide in and out OK. If any of these things are worn then the brakes are gonna be weak.
I'm afraid the braking system was fairly unique to the 300 series, none of the other stuff will fit AFAIK. The only way is to do what Adam did, but that involves a lot of hard work, expense and skills
