More rad problems
Does anybody know if it is possible to fit the thin type radiator to a car that has the thicker type. I have been sent a thin type by a breaker and that seems to be all i can find, i looked at three 340s in a scrappy this morning and they all had thin types. The only way i can see it fitting is making new brackets etc, i wondered if anyone had had this problem and managed to solve it. I have decided to change the water pump while the rad is out (it was making that chuffing train noise!) is gsf the best place to go to? Thanks
Thank you for that, i am going to try for a brand new one this morning as i need the car desperately and am getting nowhere trying to find a secondhand one! It'll teach me for being tight!. I know of a bloke who has scrapped two 340s in the last week i nearly cried, i have offered him scrap money for any others he picks up, so if i get anything i'll let people know.

The thin type is for the 1.4. I would not use it as the 1.7 needs as much cooling as it can get.

I use the 1.7 type on my 2.0, but those are the same sizes (roughly speaking). As far as temporary fixes go, I have seen a couple of idiots drive a 360 with the tiny 1.4 radiator around the zandvoort circuit all day long without issues.. so it is possible and will not go nasty really fast. Still wouldnt recommend doing this though.
Got one! the new one i had on order was the right one, at last. All i got to do is fit bumper back on and i'm mobile again. I have replaced the water pump dead easy to get hold of and not to expensive. I think i have found the cause of the no flow into expansion tank, i found a flake of rust jammed in the t junction under the air cleaner. I think it was acting like a one way valve. Thanks for all your help i'll let you know if all ok.

Glad you are sorted.

All back together, have done about 25 miles or so returning to tank ok, gauge still seems to sit quite high at normal temp though, will take a while for system to fully bleed out all the air. With the engine switched off i can hear the expansion tank cap hissing which is something it didn't do before, so system is bleeding as it should.
