360 Prop/Torque Tube Problems. . . Please Help :>\

Hi all,
recently i had the gearbox off my 360 to change a broken gearbox mount..
now that this has been changed we were trying to get the box back on when we noticed that the propshaft was spinning very freely inside the torque tube. also when fitting the drive clamp from the prop to the gearbox, the access holes on the torque tube are now out.

I think that while removing the box we have pulled the prop towards the rear of the car, and disconnected it at the front end.
i am unsure as to how to resovle this problem . . is it just a case of maybe knocking the prop back down the torque tube to the right level, and then refitting? (torque tube and box are off the car at the moment)
if not does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can get my car back on the road again without spending loads of cash !!!!

No replies in a while, so I'll chip in.

The prop isn't aligned correctly within the TT, and it spins too freely? It does sound rather like the bearings have pulled apart, or similar. I've only looked briefly at my spare TT, but I've never been able to work out how it was constructed in the first place...i.e. how the bearings got down the tube. I'm guessing that might be key to fixing the problem - how to pop the bearings back together.

Sorry, missed this one :$, simply knock the prop back along the torque tube until its in the correct position. If it won't engage properly then check and make sure the clutch hasn't been depressed when the stuff has been apart and allowed the clutch plate to slip off centre.

If it has, it's dead easy to re-align with the TT off.

I barely dared hope it was that simple...but I'm very pleased to hear that it is!

Cheers for getting back to me, have been away from internet for some time and just saw replies.
the problem was that the propshaft had been moved along inside the torque tube - solution was to tap it back in with a gentle persuader (read large mash hammer!)
next problem i encountered was that when refitting the tube we knocked on of the bolts back into the clutch housing . . . another couple of nights work to remedy :evil:

finally got all back together, car now sports lowered back end, welded diff, mk1 golf pirelli "p" slots wheels, stripped interior, and is minus a front grill (mate was messing around trying to get it off and snapped mopuntings! - looks well evil with no grill!)
it handles so much better now - really surprises me the amount of grip the back has, and wet weather is something i now look forward to!!! cheers again, wil;l get sum pics up soonish
