engine mounting bolts

Post by Vart » 23 May 2007 07:07 pm

am i just incapable or is the engine mounting bolt by the downpipe on a b14 a different size or just bitter? similarly the clutch cable seems a tricky task to remove on the engine end.

i don't have a great deal of underaccess to the car, as far as i can reach with it on the ground really.

any hints or tips appreciated

cheers

stick one side of it under the pavement and then you will have more room under neath

failing that, just go to halfords and get some ramps/axle stands. theyre not much...

the car has no prop and the nearest pavement is a busy A road. a long tow.

ramps and stands for removing an engine from a donar car is an expensive way to go. a guess a hack saw might work though. i'd rather not mind.

Stands are what... £20 tops? You'll always find a use for them in the future too...

Halfords stands are a tenner, I got a second pair over Easter as I needed both Kar and Fake up in the air (typically one decided to break as the engine is half out the other :()

The B14's mounts should be all the same size, and the clutch cable is a biatch. As I didn't need mine any more I cut through the clutch cable with a big pair of pliers, just so I could get on with the job. Engine mount is a pig to get to, I had my set of deep six sided sockets and a 2ft breaker bar to do the job though.

Good luck mate

axle stands obtained. i'll see how it goes later when its cooled down a fraction. i'll probably end up cutting the clutch cable if it gives any more jip.

cheers for info
