I always have a bad feeling when I ask for 'old' parts to a Volvo dealer... But today it was VERY positive and it has to be said!! Volvo Louis Brussels and Volvo Hoflijk made a very good job today, in both garages very nice people ready to help me and find 1. the right part number for the B200 water pump 2. the dealer in Belgium where it could be in stock.

The part n° is 3344252, I could get a 15% promotion on it because it was an old part with no demand at all :D They accepted to keep the pump at the reception desk and I could come there to pick it up at 7 PM! The guy there said that it was NO PROBLEM at all if I asked to look up for other parts for the 300 series... Nice isn't it? In conclusion: sm40 sm40 to the Volvo Hoflijk dealer!!

It probably makes a difference what kind of attitude you have. If you tell them a bit about your car, and that you're into old Volvos etc. etc. they'll treat you as an enthusiast and go out of their way to help. If you turn up moaning & groaning they'll be glad to see the back of you.

The guy behind the parts desk isn't responsible for Volvo being so bad at keeping their old parts in stock.

While I'm at it, I might as well rant on about that a bit. It is amazing that such commonly-needed things as exhaust parts and paint are no longer available at Volvo, particularly as they're the ones who keep going on about how long-lived their cars are. If you go to a Mercedes dealership and ask for a piece of blue seat trim piping for 1960's 200D the parts man will say "terribly sorry sir, we don't have it in stock right now, would tomorrow lunchtime be satisfactory?". Ask something similar from a Volvo parts man and he will just give you a sad smile.

I know it's all been said before, but sometimes you have to let off steam :-) "Volvo for life" - it's such a joke.

Just have to add something ...

Went past the Volvo garage again this morning, to see if I could get a replacement for my broken RH electric mirror.

The motor & glass were (naturally) NLA, so the parts guy rummaged around in his used parts bin, brought out a used V40 motor & showed me how to fit the motors & toothed runners from the V40 part into the 300 casing. What a service!
