saying hello and a few questions

Post by prisspringle » 19 Aug 2007 08:32 pm

hi guys, i've just joined today after looking at the site on and off for a few months.

hopefully i will be picking up a 360 next sat( swaping it for my bmw 520  ) i've been searching for information on swaping a 740/760 ti engine i know a bit about them from owning one just need to clear up a few things to do with the swap so here goes.

for the engine to fit( i know the turbo to engine mount clearance is tight) i need to swap the sump and pick up from the b200, i have seen talk of swaping the water pump but not sure why( clearance problem?)

next problem is the wireing, can i just strip the loom on the donor car and swap it over, i'd like to use the stock loom and once the car is running swap to ms later or would it be easyer to start off going down the ms route

i plan to use it as a drift toy and for a bit of drag racing , i know that the gearbox/ prop is a weak link what box can/ has been swaped before, theres not much point using the std 700 series box there about as bad, the prop is simple to sort i know

the last thing is to do with swaping the flywheel/clutch/presure plate. am i right in thinking its the 360 fly clutch and pp on the the engine?

cheers for your help, i'll post pics of the car and how things go when i get the car

The water pump on a 360 is shorter so it clears the front radiator properly. The oil pump is round the other way and the sump is a different shape so you'll need those as well.

If you're keeping the turbo stock, then the standard gearbox, possibly with an uprated prop should be fine. There are people running well over 200bhp on the standard prop and gearbox. TBH don't really know of an easy swap to an uprated gearbox.

I would definitely go for the stock loom to start with, and see how it goes, then you can always upgrade to MS or something else if you think it'll help, it adds less variables to the project.

I think you use the pressure plate for the engine, together with the friction plate from a 360, but I'm not 100% on that one. Hopefully someone else will know for certain.

Hope that helps, good luck with the build, sounds like fun.
