Oil in throttle body and air flow meter

Few pictures

Should i be worried? What can cause that? When starting it doesn't want to start and when it desides to start usually it lets out some blue smoke.
I'm taking the cylider head off and i'm gonna change head gasket just in case . And also because of that i haven't done it before.

Tbh that looks about normal to me. They get a bit oily because of crankcase fumes. Particularly as the engines wear they tend to breathe more out of the crankcase breathers. Its routine servicing really to clean out the breathers and to check and clean the throttle body too. If you haven't done it for a while you normally have to adjust your idle settings after as it'll be miles different ;)

As for the starting issue, I bet its flooding slightly. There is an issue with the LE-jet ECUs flooding and firing on 3 cylinders only and because it gets 4 cylinders worth of fuel injected it smokes like hell. I had one of mine tested and it failed on standby current. It probably means that one of the resistors or electrolytic capacitors has failed but I'm not paying some numpty to find the wrong part and solder it in badly...........I have looked for the problem myself but can't find it yet, although I didn't look that hard.

If you can get hold of another ECU it might be worth a swap over, if its really flooding and smoking everytime you start it.

And it loses about 1 liter of oil on 10000km. I haven't done almost anything to this car because i bought it in march.
It doesn't want to start if the throttle is closed or half open. At first it started quite easily. But it has gone worse gradually.
I have spoken to Tero (former owner and forum member) And he said that it doesn't start as it should start and there was no need to fill oil between oil changes.

That sounds fairly reasonable to me. Has your GLi still got around 230000kms on the clock? If so, 1 litre of oil every 10000kms is good, mine was doing 1:6000kms around that time ...

If he was doing an oil change every 10000 kms as the service schedule suggests, then he was right :-)

Yes that older Gli has around 230000kms on the clock. But it doesn't lose any oil. And we have had it since 1994. All we have done to its engine is replaced the head gasket once and changed oils and filters regularly.
But the newer Gli that i bought from Tero in march has 217000km on the clock. According to him he changed oil about every 5000 or 6000km.
I wouldn't worry anything else but that starting problem is driving me mad. It is really annoying and shameful because when it desides to start alternator belts scream like hell. I know it is time for some new belts.

So that head gasket is changed and i cleaned AFM and throttlebody fairly clean. Now the car starts much better, but it still lets out some smoke. I'm going to try if it makes any difference to have another air flow meter from B200E engine instead of that what is currently in place. And if that doesn't work i have to try locate another ecu for that LU-jetronic. Or is it same as the ecu in B200E engine.

But if the engine gets too much fuel in starts shouldn't it let out some black smoke instead of blue.

Is flame trap cleaned?

If it is, then I would say piston rings or generally worn engine, they say it is quite cheap to get B200 engine block, 50e or something like that.

No i haven't and i'm beginning to think that i should have done that when i removed it to gain access to nut which fell between it and the block. BTW isn't that flame trap black box under intake manifold and couple breather pipes attached to it.

Yes, there is then that thick tube which is easy to take off from it, there is actual flame trap, circular about inch diameter, if you take it apart it probably gets broken and you need new one, well that is actually in some instructions to install new one, not to clean, however new type was cleanable, but my memory can play tricks again.

That big black box is oil separator actually, this is one you could clean too.

Does the amount of blue smoke depend on how long the car has been stood for? If you run down a big hill at quite high RPM with the throttle closed, does it blow smoke when you put your foot down again?

If yes, it may well be valve stem seals. It really shouldn't ever blow blue smoke on start-up, regardless of how long you crank it for.

cheers

Valve stem seals were replaced at the same time as i replaced that head gasket.
Yesterday i cleaned that flametrap. And it was quite dirty. I'll see if that made any difference.
It might blow some smoke twice a day or more.
I haven't yet tryed that hill thing.
