i have resently bought my first 340 (its a 1.7 gl h reg) and when about half throttle to full or round right hand bends the warning light
( circlke with ! mark in)comes on but then goes off when i either straighten up or come of the throttle have had a quick look around engine bay when running at p[art throttle and all sounds normal and it still runs fine when light is on... just wondered if anyone had any ideas...
cheers

It's your handbrake switch with a loose connection. I had a Scirocco once which did the same thing when driven hard

Not to be the bearer of bad news... but isn't the handbrake a (P) light, and the (!) light mean the brake fluid is low?
Brake's don't just go low, take the drums off the rears and you'll prolly find the cylinders are leaking. ECP charge the monsterous sum of 6quid ea for them.

Hmm, the same light flickers on mine when I boot it. Better have a nosey around the brakes then...

The same happened to me at around 250.000kms. After the replacement the rear brakes were a lot quieter too, particularly when cold, and they weren't quite as prone to locking up under harsh braking.

Mine actually worked when I changed them

I was just using the disc's for a while I reckon

Mine does this too, except the oil pressure light comes on at the same time. I'd always just assumed it was a loose connection or possibly oil surge/brake fluid sloshing around in the reservoir.

It would be the brake fluid reservior low warning light on acceleration, and cornering etc, as Chris says worth checking the system for any leaks etc or where fluid may be escaping. But it isn't always a leak, it could be that as the brakes wear, the travel on the brake parts changes to make up for this, requiring more fluid to fill it that end, so the level in the reservior descreases.
That's why it's always a good idea to be very careful when changing brake parts that with a topped up reservior you don't push the caliper pistons in back too far pusing lots of brake fluid back into an already full reservoir and spray the highly corrosive stuff onto the underside of your bonnet and all in the engine bay!

cheers again.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I thought it would be worth mentioning that I finally managed to sort out my intermittent oil pressure/handbrake light problem.
My full/dipped beam switch had not been working properly for a while. It finally packed up while I was driving home from a drift day last week. Removing the cover, I found that the earth had come completely loose from the steering column and was floating around, touching things. Re-connecting it fixed the headlight and put out the warning light. Bonus.
