Hi I am fairly new to the drifting scene.

I have owned the 340 for about a year.
The spec
Lowering blocks
Lowered front springs
Black diamond discs and ebc pads.
braided hoses
stripped out
195/40 15 Pirelli on rear with unknown alloys
185/ 40 15 Pirelli on front with same alloys

I have used it has a £400 track car
The 1.7 is boring me i want more power

I have just board a 1990 1.8 16v clio complete right off due to been smashed from behind.

Engine and running gear look fine.

I know i have to use the 1.7 sump and bell housing to attach to the 1.8.
What clutch do i use? volvo 1.7, clio 1.8!!! and what flywheel

Also what about injection?

Or carbs?

I would prefer to use the carbs from a R1 or GSXR, but the 1.8 was injected so how do you get rid of it. i thought the ignition was controlled by the ECU to.

Also can i use the standard 340 radiator. what about hosing it up?

Cheers for reading and i would really appreciate some information..

Hi

Clutch is a combination of the 1.7 clutch and the 1.8 flywheel

1.7 Radiator should be ok - i have an escort one as its got the pipes in the right place as mine was a 1.4 one and too small.

I'm also running motorbike carbs and matching fuel pump as it replaces having an ecu - but costs about £300 for manifold and carbs and £100 to get set up on a rolling road - although can be done if you know what your doing.

If you want to keep the injection you will have to make the renault loom fit the volvo one - didnt fancy it so went carb route.

Ignition is controlled by a bendix unit. Follow the wire from the top of the bellhousing to a small box - thats the unit - will have a few wires power/neg and one for a rev counter. plus a vacuum pipe from the manifold.

If you get a manifold made up for bike carbs make sure its got a small tube for the vacuum pipe for bendix unit and also the brakes.

Mine made about 155 bhp with custom exhaust and goes quite well - if you get carbs - get them overhaulled before hand saves time undoing it all looking for problems - springs, jets etc.

Good luck

I'd love to know where you clio guys all buy your exhaust from, as they seem to gain you 25bhp (and thats supposing the engine is fully rebuilt before fitting)

jason: Lol.

its amazing what exhaust do isnt it!

im just going with a simple mani-downpipe - bike can. as the car currently still has MOT on it. once mot time is drawing near i'll be of to the local power flow gagrae and geta system fab in stainless otherwise works metal worker has said if i get a lay out done and the metal he will weld it all up properly..( and for beer money:D) and thats more tempting

As regards to exhaust the 1.8 makes 140BHP standard and 150BHP for the 2.0, the decat is the biggest thing with the clio, removing the cat is pretty much 15BHP.

Mine was set up on a rolling road by a mini specialist who has worked on carbs of all sorts for over 30 years - dont forget every rolling road is different - some over read some under read. Think most people on bike carbs will make 150 with free flowing exhaust and fueling set up with correct jets - most bike jets are a little to small for a larger car engine.
