i know there are just a few of these, i know they are slow, and i mean SSSLLLLOWWW, but i just love my volvo.
i do have some problems with it, and i hope you could help me out.
first of all, my vacum pump for the power braking failed. i failed about 2 years ago, and i had to learn to drive it this way. it's not very interesting, trust me on this. i had to do this because i just couldn't get a belt drive vacum pump, in my area. it's just like they never existed. i went all over to find one, but still can't find one.
can anyone help?

That's a bit of a task as I don't think they ever came to the UK. IIRC the only RHD models went to Ireland.
Its a renault engine of some sort so would you be able to source a Renault vacuum pump that would fit?

Hmmm, by vacuum pump, do you mean brake servo? Or is there something else on the diesal I don't understand? Could you take a picture of the part?

don't think diesels create vacuum like a petrol so you need a crank (or similar) driven pump to feed the brake servo / other vacuum facilities. i had a look on Euro car parts and a few places (inc ebay) but couldn't find anything. maybe a breaker breaking a r5 diesel / scrapyard??

... or a R9 / R11 / Rapid / Express? AFAIK they all shared the same diesel engine, I don't know about the brake vacuum pump though.
However, check this thread:

i have gone to a few scrapyards around my area, and this is a very
tricky part to get. the engine is a renault model: F8M. so a different model with the same engine must work, or a different car with the same principle can be modified to work. it's a belt driven unit, that looks kindda like a mushroom, and it creates vacum for the power braking and some other things. i am driving the car in this way for over 2 years, so it won't be that much of a problem if i can't fix it, but would be great thow....

The renault one doesnt fit the volvo. Here in the NL there was a guy with the same problem. Maybe you could try to fix something else...
Ive seen 4 diesels, in 2 years time here in the NL. Really rare...
