360 carb fuel consumption..

Post by 5lab » 14 Dec 2004 02:19 pm

ello guys..

just had to fill the new car up after just 125 miles of in-town driving on £20 of fuel - this seems unduely high - is something wrong? i didnt drive her particularly hard, but most of the driving would have been stop-start at best.. any thoughts??

incidentally - £43 to fill the tank to the top at asdas (and at only 79.9p) - i gotta get used to this 360 tank :P

hmm that does seem abit high.. I'm not sure what mine is getting in town - I daren't check and I keep driving it hard. Foggy may be able to give a good comparison having run the B200K for a long period.

Going to Wales on Saturday - I'm going for an economy run, lets see if i can get 35mpg. Ouch.. I didn't think the tank would take £43 to fill, it seems rather small for the amount of fuel it uses! Atleast petrol is on its way down 78.8 I paid the other day! :D

Last week it was 86.6p, its suddenly dropped this week, although its still about 83p as you get closer to the city. I filled up a couple of times at Asda and my car seemed to run a bit rough :?

supermarket petrol being of lower quality is a complete myth. they simply buy the petrol from the cheapest refinery, rather than being restricted to one at a time. ie say bp get a lot of oil one month, they sell it on cheap cos they've no-where to store it. next month it might be esso doing the same. the garage prices remain the same cos they just even out the amounts to match thier competitors, but the supermarkets can be consistently cheaper.

I go to coventry twice a week which is a 126 mile round trip each time from my place .Its mostly motorway and It always costs £15.00 for the return trip.Milton Keynes is one of the most expensive places in England to fill up with unleaded costing 83.9p per litre at the moment. So if my maths is right £15.00 is just under 18 litres which is 3.96 gallons so i'm getting about 31.8 miles to the gallon

I put £30 (well, £28.62) a week in my 1.4, and it usually lasts the week and the weekend. Usually I have half a tank left on Thursday (I fill it up on Saturday) which is uber good.

Firstly, I disagree with Hugh's comments about supermarket fuel. It's fine if you've got a "normal" car, but you're not helping anything high performance by using poor fuel. It also can manifest itself in other ways...

I have a slight ignition fault at the moment, and my car runs noticably better on Shell, BP or Jet(!!) fuel than on that from ASDA or Sainsburys. The last time I filled up at Sainsburys the car kept dramatically losing power on the motorway (it wouldn't hold 70 in 5th!). Now obviously that's caused by a fault on the car that I'm too lazy to fix, but its funny that it only misfires on supermarket fuel.

Even when the car was running AOK, I could tell the difference in performance between supermarket adn branded fuel on the motorway....quite definitely. Added to that, my local Shell station is cheaper than ASDA....why would I pay more for crap fuel?

As for fuel consumption.....well the B200K is heavy on fuel around town and especially when cold. However, I'm currently averaging about 70 miles to £10 in urban driving, and that's with the above mentioned ignition fault. I think you have some work to do Hugh!! Do a FULL service (incl rotor, dizzy cap, leads, plugs), and take it from there.

cheers

I usually get 24-27mpg for medium length journeys. Best is around 30mpg.

I went thru a stage of working out what mine did every time i filled up (hey, i'm a mathematician, i cant help it ), and near enough every time it was 25mpg. Unfortunately my daily journey was 4 miles to work, and 4 miles back, and if i drove it anywhere else it was usually 'pleasure' driving, as i had a diesel for 'economy' driving. However it didnt seem like it was that bad, as the tank was huge so i was only filling up once every few weeks.
I think it did go over 30 once or twice though. But saying that, another time it was ~16mpg

Well I haven't worked it out MPG wise, but lets just say £10 doesn't last long if you're driving it hard - actually not long atall!

The B200K 360 can return in excess of 50mpg if you drive it carefully enough - I think 500 miles to a £40 tank is achievable.

I managed to get from Bedford to Derby (circa 90 miles) on around £5 of fuel the other day....which is about 7 litres, or 1.5 gallons....which works out at 60mpg. That's a rough value, and I'm guessing the fuel, so 50mpg is a fair figure. It wasn't a continuous run (too many roundabouts, and it wasn't flat), but given the conditions I couldn't have driven any more gently if I tried!

I think 60mpg is possible under the right conditions(bearing in mind that even in the olden days the 56mph / extra urban figure was still not the maximum you can actually achieve).....which is bloody amazing. It's gotta be about the most impressive combination of size / performance (especially given the torquey power delivery and the fact that its not EFI!) and fuel efficiency.

cheers

About the fuel consumption, I've the feeling that my new GLT with B200F isn't really economical... sm14
