1.7 conversion?

Post by kds19 » 02 Jan 2009 01:15 am

i am thinkin about swapping my 1.7 engine in to my 1.4 340
as the 1.7 is rusty and the electrics are knackered
i was just wondering if this will require alot of modification
ie, wiring, fabrication and such like
cheers

this is a direct fit if your 340 1.4 is a mk3 version with the latest model heaterhousing,

you do have to swap the entire engine bay,

- wiring harness
- rear engine mounts
- front engine beam
- exhaust
- coolant hoses and radiator
- renix ignition system

for the best result you can swap the gearbox aswell, the 1700 versions have the 5 speed gearbox standard. the clutch housing can't be swapped, the size is different to a 1400 and the bdp-sensor is mounted differently.

another tiny one, the 1700 model has the intake hose for the air filter housing connected to the front via somekind of plastic nozzle..

since you can use all the 1700 parts, it won't be a hard swap. good luck;)

If they are both mk3s then no wiring has to be swapped.

was gonna say you just need:

The engine
bell housing.
coolant hoses.
renix
radiator might be an idea.

might need to lenghten your fuel hoses as i did notice they came up on the oposite side on the car we just broke for parts.

it'll just bolt in place

Swap the header tanks too, and save the 1.4 one for a rainy day will save you having to drill the 1.4 one.
