volvo 340 gl automatic 1.4 cvt
hello,
Iwonder if you can help? I have a problem with my car in the fact that when my car gets warm (normal running temp) it starts to play up in the sense that the engine dies, if i floor it nothing happens, i just kinda cough and splutter to a stop. If i pull over, let it cool down and restart it again no problems at all just fires straight up and off i go again.
Now ive changed the coil (which is the renix system), ive changed the crank/flywheel sensor but no avail. Pulling the choke doesnt stop the engine dying, it just .....stops its like its lost all power to keep running.
hope you can help

Hi Ed
I`m not sure this is a problem that could be due to the transmission - much more likely to be a carb problem.
It sounds like a problem I had with my previous 1.4 which I unfortunatley never got to the bottom of - it just stopped happening as suddenly as it started.
As a start, I suggest you read the sticky at the stop of the forum. If your mechanical skills are up to it , get the carb off the car (and into the warm!!), and strip and clean it. No need to completely break it down, just get the top off and blow out the jets at the bottom of the float chamber and all the airways and fuel drillings with some carb cleaner (use the extension tube to get right in). Use new gaskets if the old ones are at all flaky. Make sure it`s snugged down evenly when you refit it but don`t be too heroic on the fastenings, or you`ll bend/strip something and be worse off than you were when you started
Make sure too that the choke is correctly adjusted and the flap is completely open when the knob is pushed in ( fnaar fnaar )
Actually check this before you take the carb off...
Check too that the warm air valve in the filter works too - could be carb icing given the cold damp weather we`ve been having
