ever since i bought my 360 i had intensions of doing a turbo conversion during the summer, but yesterday i had a huge stroke of luck when visiting the local scrappy. there are only 2 volvos in the whole scrapyard one 740 and one 760 so out of interest i asked what engine was in the 740 and to my surprise he said 2.3 turbo complete and running but with head gasket troubles. now with a huge grin on my face i asked him what engine was in the 760 and he said it was a 16valver!
currently my volv is of the road due to the rusty kinda problem so i thought its the perfect time to do the transplant. i got the scrappy owner coming up with a price for the whole 740 but only thing holding me back is my lack of knowledge for these cars. i have done some research and they dont seem that difficult a conversion to do other than sortin out the turbo clearence problem which is pre sorted!!!
i have a 360 glt (b200k i think) and the engine i am looking to fit is a b230fk, is this the right engine for the conversion?? also how easy is it to 16valve the engine??
as far as i know i use the turbo block, my sump, i have a turbo manifold and exhaust system already, 16 valve head + inlet.
is there any specific parts i wont have from the cars i will need to buy??
for now i just plan on getting the 8 valve turbo engine in and running sweet then eventually 16 valving, megasquirt ecu, t5 injectors and so on.
so any info regardint the 8 valve conversion would be appreciated.
thanks dudes

Re: turbo conversion
Good effort!
The 740 engine would be unusual to be a B230FK, these are usually in late 940's (94 onwards). Perhaps it's a 940 with 740 tailgate? If it is the B230FK then you're on to a winner! They have thicker conrods and oil squirters. As opposed to a B230ET that has thinner conrods and no oil squirters (but admittedly a more desirable cylinder head and cam). Obviously you'll need the donor cars engine management loom and ecu.
Is he sure the 760 is 16v? 16v's were usually 740 GLE/GLT's and 760's were usually either B230ET's and B280E's (the latter being a 2.8 V6). If the 2.3 Turbo has head gasket issues you might do better buying an engine from elsewhere to be honest, they're not hard to get hold of.

Re: turbo conversion
I think you'll want to fit the pistons from the 16v too, as they have valve clearance reliefs in them.
