"Dyno" results

Post by jtbo » 20 Mar 2005 01:49 am

That can be slightly off as I did not floored at once, I floored gas bit gently, so I think that causes torgue being so slow at lower rpm. I think that there is 5-8 kw's too much power, but not sure.

I did other runs too, but this one sucseed best.

Current mods are intake, exhaust and lightened flywheel.

Software used was Streetdyno, works suprisingly well, also laptop and small mod to tach wire needed. Ignition 'sound' is recoreded and software changes that sound to powercurve. Also possible to use computer as oscilloscope with that small mod to tach wire.

Program is useful to measure performance changes if you change cam or something like that, comparision between cars could be harder.

Results are suprisingly same with other cars, my friend has Honda Civic and he got pretty much as close to real results as I did.

Here is my cfg file (right click and save as...):

What do you think?

Found better program, Powerdyn. Also powercurve is updated and now it starts to be rather close, imo. It is amazing what you can do with recorded wav :D

It is also possible to hook laptop to car and use it as oscilloscope.

How does the software work? The car was on a dynometer right?

Software translates ignition events to powercurve with math formula. I built small wire that has 1 resistor and 1 pot, then this wire has plug so I can connect it to my laptop. Other two ends of wire goes to ground and tachometer wire. Then I can record igniton sound to computer or use computer as oscilloscope.

Very simplified, software checks how long it takes to accelerate your car between start and end rpm, because weight and other values that are resisting acceleration is known it is possible to calculate power.

I drove around 1000rpm with 2nd gear on flat road and then floored it and kept it floored until around 5900rpm, I recorded sound to wave file and imported that file into Powerdyn that made nice curves for me. Of course there was some settings that need to adjust first.

Can we have a link to the software please...and a wiring diagram for the probe? This sounds VERY cool.

cheers

Powerdyn costs 35 euros, I think that price is ok, after all it is as accurate as is real dyno, only make sure there is not wind and road is smooth.
There is also some graphs to compare and also these very nice looking graphs, seems also bit more accurate than street dyno.

Also It is possible to export your car in Powerdyn so we can compare cars very easy ;)

Street dyno however is completely free. It has new homepage http://www.tweecer.com/StreetDyno/help.html
There is also wiring diagram for voltage divider. It is rather simple to build with one resistor, one potentiometer, little wire and microphone jack that fits your recording device.

Make sure you measure voltage from microphone jack before you attach it to recording device so you won't fry your laptop etc. Voltage should be around 60mV, but I have used around 100mV as I had only 100k pot that makes small adjustments bit difficult.

Oh yes, some big boys has been telling from something called emule, but I don't know much about it ;)

More powercurves

Post by jtbo » 09 Apr 2006 06:20 pm

Let's bring up old topic.

Image
Nearly stock B200K with Y-Cam and stock Cisac carb. Hot/cold flap was removed from air filter box and flywheel was bit lightened, but other than those it was stock, running with 98-octane fuel.

Image
Megasquirt installed, this was with generated fuel map and lambda correction on even at WOT, not too smart, but had not enough knownledge back then...

Image
Here is K-Cam installed and few hundred kilometers tuning behind, lambda correction was off and fuel map was not too good at all.

Image
Here is better tuned fuel map and fuel pressure tweaked up a bit by clamping fuel return line.

I have not yet taken graphs from latest changes, that is replacing renix, but when I get new ignition working completely I will get new graphs. Car feels much more powerful at low rpm now and engine roars bit more at higher rpm, also may have bit better power at top, but I have not yet been able to get past 5000rpm limit so can't take new graphs, maybe someday :P

Which software are you using atm Jani? Might have to give Fake a play with this, I ment to do it on Kar, but I'm a bit more into it all now

I'm using powerdyn software, hardware needed is still very same to all of these, you can find instructions from streetdyno's page.

Cool, just went to powerdyn's website, and it doesn't look happy, but I still have a version here from last time. Lets have a play :D

Oh yes, it might be indeed bit hard to find this info, but:
Image

http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/homedyno/ ... o.htm#inst

More info from Voltage divider:
http://www.tweecer.com/StreetDyno/help.html

I made that upper one, connected to gray wire of renix box (rpm signal). Just adjust signal to around 50mV and record with goldwave or some other recorder, Powerdyn is capable of recording on the fly too.

Grand, thats just what I need, I'll double check some maths, and see what parts I have lying round in the box. I reckon, I'll be able to record it then transfer, if only I'd kept my old flash mp3 player, don't feel like stuffing my ipod...

Jani, can I grab your car setup, I know you played with it a lot! I'm just making a rough one here, wondered how much they differ
