Daily driver hack for sale (truly immaculate S80)

Post by mac » 14 Sep 2011 11:02 am

Hi all,
Even in my dotage I realise this is not a 300 - but it is an exceptional car and might just be of interest.

This has been the BKV class winning car for the last five years and is truly immaculate inside and out.
It is being replaced by an XC60.

S80 SE, Premium pack, Winter pack, Rear park sensors,
Folding mirrors with down lights, Venetian Red, Sand leather interior,
D5 163hp, manual, to be sold with personalised reg.no.

July 2001, 95,000mls, FVSH, has been maintained since new, regardless of expense,
by Suffolk Main Volvo Dealer M.R King and sons.
Every bill, receipt, and MOT retained. Recent new front tyres. Mot - July 2012, RFL - Jan 2012.

£3,500 or very near offer.

Contact David Barker (VOC Essex & Suffolk section secretary) 01728 663340 or PM Mac.

It is truly a stunning car, but I would like to add that it didn't win outright at the BKV a few years back as it shared the top prize with another.............

What on earth is possessing The Barker to get rid of it, and for an XC60 too?????

Pedantic bu##er Rupert!

Perhaps you would like to buy it - it usually beats yours.

But I agree why? - I'll tell you all about it at Beaulieu.

ps I've been thinking of an XC60!

I'd probably buy that if it were an automatic.

I'm thinking of getting an S80, and I see that this one's a D5 - can anyone explain to me how a 2.4 D5 is better than a 2.5D? I have never driven either, and I know that the D5's reputation is that of being the better engine. But what makes it so? :?:
7.52pm: I'm jealous. I really wish that I was a) a Fulham fan; and b) at Craven Cottage. What a night for them. The players are still on the pitch, loving it.

Not meaning to but in here, but I do believe that the D5 replaced the 2.5D, both are 5 cyclinder diesels, but the D5 has 20valves instead of the 10valves in the 2.5D, because of this the D5 has more power and torque and gets slightly better mpg.

All the above are just observations, I myself haven't owned either - but friend's of the family have owned one 2.5D and so far 3x D5's and prefer the D5.

Cheers.

The 2.5D is the old Audi 146hp 2.5 cyl diesel, the D5 is the 2.4 163hp (in early guise, 185 in later) 5 cyl Volvo engine.

I can vouch for how good a car this particular one is. If you want a manual S80 D5 with a decent spec level you'd struggle to find a better one.

And mac, having discussed the issue with the judges over the years it appears it's only the state of my bumpers that has let me down, otherwise I'd have the best S80 and not Barker.......
