Re: Ebay - 1700 Turbo?
Looks less rusty wheel arch wise and lower mileage than mine! I'd like that grill for my 440 T and need a wheel to replace a badly kerbed one
I know 440's are the anti-christ on here
But that's a very early 440 Turbo (Mark 1 in 340 terms) in what appears to be good condition

Re: Ebay - 1700 Turbo?
Even though I'm still not sure I like these, I find it a bit of a shame that the very early 440/60 turbo's are disappearing fast - and there's literally no following to save up the good ones
1989 - Volvo 360 GLT
1985 - Volvo 360 GLS
2008 - Volvo S60 SE Lux

Have to agree, I hate how the 400 drives but it's a shame.
First 300 1976, first 400 1986 but first 440/60 was 1988?? What state was the 300 scene 12 years ago if the 440's are 12 years behind.
There wasn't one. Hence why all the mk1's went. They'll pick up enthusiasm at one point, different being there was 15years of 300's, and 6/7 of 440s

Re: Ebay - 1700 Turbo?
I must admit I only still have one cos it's a turbo! Although when i went from the 340 I run now to the turbo (via a 1.7 N/A 440) I thought the handling was better than a 300 at the time. It felt much firmer round the corners and being a turbo faster of course. The biggest downside is of course the FWDness. The seating position is much lower than a 300 and then there is the amazing knight-rider style dashboard computer/displaySteveP wrote:Even though I'm still not sure I like these, I find it a bit of a shame that the very early 440/60 turbo's are disappearing fast - and there's literally no following to save up the good ones

They were one of the last proper square Volvos to be designed were they not? There's still quite a few of the later ones knocking around but they are going fast, I look on autotrader occasionally and they are getting rarer. Early style turbos (440s that is, not 480s) must be nearly as rare as 300 Mk1's by now.
I don't think I'd bother with the more boring standard versions, although the cars generally seamed to be good ones.
400 mania ain't got the same ring to it somehow

Edit:
Just looked on howmanyleft.co.uk
23 X 440 Turbos left (most likely match to the earlier one I have, not including all the later style and diesels etc.)
33 X 343 of all spec. (this must include some Mk2s however)
Not sure of the accuracy of these figures.
