940 wasted spark conversion

Post by Ride_on » 10 May 2012 12:08 am

I've been doing a bit of research and found a reliable mod for the EZK ignition controlled that goes with the LH2.4 management on the 900s to eliminate the oily distributor.

Its $50 (edit $65) each and you need some soldering skills (wires and connectors), and some other easyish/cheapish parts, mainly the coil pack and driver. I'm looking at a few sources for these but seems pretty easy to get 2nd hand, <£50 all tried out and matched up by many others.

They are doing a group buy for the board over in turbobricks. (group buy is over is now FCFS @ $65 each)

I'm ordering 2 for my 940 and 360 projects, if anyone else is interested I'll manage the 300mania group buy. I'll even do some EZK mods if others are no good with soldering.

Any more details? I've found the article in the articles section on TBricks but not much more, I want to loose the dizzy on my valver, as well as the EZK in the B18FT

EDIT: Found the thread. Will read in more detail tomorrow, but looks as though it takes a VR input as well as a few others, meaning the Fenix 3B/Renix trigger pattern won't work with it :( Lame, that's exactly what I need to build next other than that.

You loose the dizzy cap and arm, i.e. no moving parts (or, if you are an F7ist, no moving parts that should be replaced yearly and cost £85 a set)

Group buy 940 wasted spark conversion

Post by Ride_on » 10 May 2012 01:19 pm

My main issue is the oil leaks from cam end distributors cause weak spark hesitation. I've scrapped a 340 1.7 because of it, and notice the same but less severe issue in my 940. Driveability, MPG and torque seem jump up when I clean it, but it only lasts a few days. Tried 2 distis now.

There maybe a disadvantage from reliability, in that these newer compact multi coil packs are not as reliable as the original distributed ones.

BTW the recommened parts needed

Coil pack - Fiat Punto 2001 defo has them (loads of other makes + Model), lots breaking on ebay
extra driver stage - either duplicate item already there or 960 3 channel version would suit, again plenty breaking

2nd hand have the benefit of getting the connectors aswell

Let me know interest asap, he's running low on PCBs and next batch will be after summer.

Sorry to interupt guys, but Chris, £85?! GSF do both dizzy and arm for under 20 quid! :? Hope you haven't been spending more than what's needed!

This must be very recent because up to the end of my 340 ownership I was still paying about that much. It's nice to know their prices have come down though!

with a 740 or 940 you are looking close to£100 for an ignition service I've converted some of ours to the 240 setup as it is a lot cheaper on parts.

As in the first post, the group buy is over, so you could mail Karl directly

kbuchka@gmail.com

Once he agrees he has a unit for you, just paypal him $65 each at the address above, and note that you are from 300mania.com with your username. Paypal will include your name address etc so check it is using the right one.
