Non V300: BX 16v

Post by Carl » 26 Aug 2006 09:26 pm

OK, OK I know it's not a 300, but I also know a few people on here appreciate them, so thought I'd stick this up....

I've acquired another Citroen BX 16v. Currently it has no MoT or tax, but a mate and I are intending to do it up in order to keep another 16v on the road (it was either heading for the crusher or destined to have it's engine ripped out for another Pug 205 conversion).

I wont go into great details but it's in pretty good nick (hence the reason we're fixing it up) and should have a years MoT once we're done. Heres a pic (the black one):

If anyone is interested then give me a shout

Cheers

No i think that it was one of the designs for the volvo 440, i have seen a picture of a 343 coupe but it had the 343 nose cone on.

I have driven BX only once, but it had really odd brakes, like on/off switch, afterwards I have been told that it is actually great when you get used to it.

Great comfortable passenger carrying machines those are, very good to take long journey, specially turbo diesel models.

I have been watching car building scene, but I have not spotted such style where they would build some prototype look likes like these prototypes in pics, some minor works have been completed.

Price range here seem to be 70-2300€ mostly under 1000€ so quite same prices as 300, how is it there?

Yeah the brakes take a bit of getting use to, but once you've adapted to s lightly more senstive approach they're pretty damn amazing. All of the models (even the lowly ones) had discs all around with vented up front for the more powerful models. There's no servo as the brakes, PAS and suspension all use the hydraulic system. Best brakes I've ever had on a car!

They are very comfortable indeed and come with plenty of kit as standard. Plus with ~ 160bhp/tonne mine goes pretty well too! :)

Most of them are pretty cheap - between £100 and £700 for the normal models (including the GTi). The 16v is a bit more - up to £1200 if you wanted a mint one. Also the prices of the 16v's are being pushed up because the XU9J4 engine in them is very popular upgrade for 205 owners wanting more power, which is a shame because a lot of decent cars are getting pulled apart for them :(

I'd love a CX Turbo, soooooo cool 8) Although I'm leaning towards a Xantia for my next move - a 2.0T or a v6. Apparently the suspension is pretty amazing - I heard about one test where one out cornered an audi 1.8T and a 3 series so they put it up agaisnt some really exotic cars and it beat a lot of them too!

The Xantia Activa suspension is incredible - the 2.0 turbo model with that suspension would be a very tempting daily driver. But when it breaks, I'd kick myself.... I gather that since the Actvia stuff is fairly rare and the problem is getting hyraulic rams and anyone to understand them :?

I really enjoyed my Xantia, a 1.8i 8v LX model, which is the car I've owned the longest so far (over 4 years). Even though it wasn't a sporty model and didn't have Activa suspension it was great fun to chuck round the twisty stuff and yes, the brakes are absolutely brilliant. I know people always worry about big Citroens being complicated and expensive, but if you look after them properly they're really no more trouble than any other car - you just have to make sure you start off with a good one. I took mine from 60k to just over 120k (when it was written off after someone pulled out in front of me at a roundabout) with no major problems... although I did get through a lot of front tyres and brake discs.
