The man has a point.
If I were keeping it standard, I'd have the 960. If I wanted to do some work, I'd have the 940. The engine is easier to tune, as is the suspension - but the 960 is better as standard.

No, it's an all-alloy engine. It was the first in the series of modular engines that now make up (almost) all Volvo's petrol engines. In other words, it's an 850 engine with an extra cylinder in the middle.
It's (basically) the same engine as in the S80, and there were turbo units there. A T6 swap into a 960 is a popular one...albeit not totally straightforward (and maybe not that great for performance use...the T6 engine is not as performance orientated as you might think).
