Afternoon all,
Now Jen has made her decision I'll "publish" my findings for anybody else who may be interested.
Car is a bit of a "curates egg" (good in parts) and can be sumarised as follows:-
Good -
Genuine "Redline", One owner car, has a service history (first 10 years with Volvo dlr), 4 new tyres (Michelins), 12 months MOT,
cabin is in resonable order (rear cabin is excellent for age), has 2 spare wheels (steel original and a matching alloy), car ran well
when warmed up. 60.000mls appears supported by s/hist, the body is for the most part very good as is the paint.
Not Good -
Severe rust in n/s/f corner of bonnet, severe rust in both ends of bonnet slam panel (I regard the slam panel as structural which
questions the MOT validity), RFL end of this month, corrosion starting in n/s/r wheel arch, undebonnet is utterly filthy, both
tailgate gas struts are u/s, was not easy to start from cold, drivers door panel delaminating, all alloy wheels have kerbing damage
(although none is severe), o/s/f wing badge broken, drivers door outer trim unglued and coming away, boot area in a disgusting
state with much staining and evidence of water leakage, parcel shelf broken and filthy, interior had an "interesting" odour, the
front valence could not be inspected as the Redline model has a "chin" spoiler but rust can be seen breaking out from beneath,
rust in the tailgate hinges.
Conclusion -
Basically a potentially sound car but needing considerable work to bring it to an acceptable standard,
NOT a good example to base a "keeper" on.
Probably worth £500 (for the tyres and years MOT). If there was no corrosion at all it would make good buy, but as it stands,
I think not. It will, if NOT viewed, probably make £600 - £700 on the bay.
you get the idea!
