Thanks for letting people know Matt. Pity when sellers can't be honest about essential things like that. Or did he really not know about the blown head gasket? I doubt it ...

He has got to have known, they are a specialist volvo dealers and say they have serviced it recently. there is loads of white gunk under the filler cap and after the car has fully warmed up the amount of condensation coming out of the exhaust is ridiculous.

It just really annoyes me, they obviously knew but they still said no no no its fine nothing wrong and knew I was driving 200 miles to look. Its one thing I managed to get money out of them for petrol but its a waste of a whole day which could have been spend doing much better things than driving.

Kicking

Post by workshopmanualman » 23 Nov 2008 01:25 pm

You must have the patience of a saint - most people would have kicked off big time. Thanks for the heads up though; explains why they've had it so long. £750 is a tad over the top now isn't it? Could just be the head gasket, but you never know until these things are fully dismantled? They must have had some front to allow you to drive that kind of distance - and no way did they not know about the fault!
I blame the Volvo 66 estate I had......

Unbelievable! The ebay ad makes it all look very good as well, decent pics and listing otherwise. Shame you had a wasted day :(

that really boils my p*ss.
Cheeky little toerag.
No wonder people are wary and suspicious of dealers.

honesty costs nothing eh?

Dont think I'd have been as understanding as you after wasting a day. Still at least you got a nice run out.

WTF? If they're that good at servicing, they could have a new HG on it in half a day, easy, and sell it with a clean conscience. Muppets! I'm half tempted to call Trading Standards.

I once drove from Derby to a used car lot in Farnborough to pick up a 360 GLEi SE which was "stolen" during the night. I requested my petrol money (because you can bet your arse they were going to claim for it), and the smarmy smart-arse used car sales-tosser said with a smirk "it's a nice idea mate...".

I couldn't be bothered to report them to their local "approved garage" scheme at the time, but if anyone fancies pushing a turd through their letterbox, this was the place: http://www.towerhillgarage.com/

cheers

question:

what the HELL is the thing in the top left?

http://www.webcarmart.co.uk/C608GEV/IMG_8039f.jpg

above the petrol guage?

wierd. i bet its a proper stupid question everyone knows the answer to but i've never seen it before.

if you're looking for a 2litre engine, im trying to sell one for a ton - 78k ish i think, pretty low for its 24yr age. if not a ton, how much do you lot think that'd be worth?

Its a 'gear change indicator'
My 85 340 GLs got one.
(had to look in the manual when i fist saw it mind)
Is meant to light up at the optimum gear change moment.
For er, deaf people I assume.

Mine lights up at frankly quite retarded times though, if i tok and notice of it, I'd be dead, AND have a blown engine.

You learn something every day eh?

Just another warning light that seems to be soley for the protection of retards.

Your hanbrakes on! - I know, im not a retard.
You havnt got your seatbelt on! - I know, im not a retard.
You hve to change gear now! - I know, im really not a retard.

if all the bulbs went out on the same day, and I was left to my own devices, do you think i'd drag the car 4 mile with the handbrake on, in first gear before blowing the lump and hurtling through the windscreen?

:x

At least it doesn't make noises at you. American cars for example. My pontiac beeps at you when you open the door, when you have the key in but the ignition off, when you turn the engine back off. All according to federal law iirc.

They need labels on packets of nuts, to warn of the pesence of nuts.
The land of v8 powerplants and a national speed limit of 55kph.
And they've got mullets.

You've got to love Americans man.

Yee haw.

Honestly they'd need a label around the whole country, "may contain nuts".

I don't think the national speed limit (1973-1987) was kph, but 55 mph. And now it's gone, there are limits of 65 and even 75 mph on American roads.

I also drive a taxi as a part-time job. Naturally it's a Volvo, S80 model though. And it beeps at me if the key thingy is left in the dash with engine stopped and door open. The disease is spreading...
