and im not to sure of this i thought when they made the saloon they decied they would put anything smaller than the 1.7 engine could be a proper cool 1 i think

Could be a Mk 1, but he does describe it as a 340 rather than 343. Although the early Mk2 was still a 343. If it's 1981 it's still a 343 either Mk1 or 2. Bet it's a MK1 in much better state than mine Someone needs to find out before the 'buy it and sell it on at a big profit' mob gets wind of it.

Edit: If it's 1981 doesn't that almost guarantee it's a Mk1? When exactly was the facelift, late 81? or was it 82? I'm a bit fuzzy on the changeover year!

that;s why it's easyer to keep the MK's simpler :
mk1- badged 343/345
mk2- badged 340/360
mk3- badged 340/360 with the front indicators in the bumper etc.
much less confusing as for very specific info (especcially the mk1 from above) you need the modelyear to find out wich parts originally belong to wich model.

1981 could be modelyear 81 old nose; long bumpers or modelyear 82, square headlights and older style dash

I don't think so, it could still be an early Mk2 (still badged as a 343 though), I was hoping it was a Mk1 and have tried to contact the seller (even got quotes for delivery!) but alas no response

Nope, 1981 Mk2's (those that still had the Mk1 dash) were still badged as 343/345's.

everything badged 343 or 345 is a mk1, so that also counts for a my82 wich has the old dash and square headlights....

try fitting a real mk2 dash/doorpanels into a my82 car wich is badged 343 or 345, good luck!

Ah, well that depends on your definition of a Mk1. To my mind the Mk2 started with the new bodyshell, not the new interior.

Hi lads.
Not completly shure on the change over. My car is January 1981 with the old nose cone with built in headlights
and old style dash clocks and badged 345.
