I'm thinking of selling my 340. Most regular readers will be familiar with it and have seen pictures. I'm picking up a DAF 46 later this week that I hope to take on some classic rallies and I don't really have the space, time or money for this many cars (especially as you need residents' permits round here). I'd just like to gauge interest at the moment, if there aren't any sensible offers from here I'll probably end up putting it on eBay.

I've got to the stage where I don't know if it's worth completing the jobs I had in mind - a carb will be about £200 (if I can't find one 2nd hand) and painting the new panels another £150. To make this worthwhile I'd want the car to make about £500 on eBay and I think this is very unlikely. With the wing sorted I'd want about £350, otherwise I'll take £200 and you could sort this out yourself. I'm in the process of cleaning up the wheels (scrub, kurust, primer, paint and lacquer).

This car has a great history of one owner from new until I bought it last December (although 2 on the V5C as registered to husband then wife, but always wife's car). It's also very tidy with only a very few minor surface rust spots. If you treated these now, you'd have a pretty much perfect car quite easily. Everything works, even the heated seat, rear demister and hatchback props. MOT until December.

There's a flat spot just after opening the throttle, which means that manouevres requiring delicate control of the throttle (such as reverse parking) are quite difficult. Once it's off, it's fine. I'm assuming it's the carb that's the problem although there has been some mention of an air leak (not sure where from though). Martin (Daffodil) is sending me a new carb to try so hopefully that will cure the problem.

To be honest I think I'll sort everything out and put it up for sale locally for about £800. I went to see one locally that was in very similar shape to mine, but a DL, and I offered them £400. The car wouldn't start when I went to see it, and when I rang up again, they'd sold it, presumably for more than I'd offered. The Devon market seems to have very high prices...

Hi Ed,

Sorry that this is a bit off-topic (and maybe a bit insensitive), but will you only be wanting one Prancing Moose now?

Cheers!

Gavin.

No, I'll still have two.

I may well still keep the 340, just considering my options right now. I'd like to hang on to it, but I might need some extra cash. Took the panels in to be painted today.
