For sale - 360 GLT

Post by marcus79 » 23 Apr 2007 08:32 pm

For Sale

£140

1989 360GLT [collected November 88]

163,700 miles

Ocean Blue, 5-speed, 1986 cc

Tax: end of this month (April)

MOT: November 2007

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye my loyal friend, the 360. My dad bought it new and I’ve been an additional driver on it for 10 years. Needless to say, the car has served my family well. (I still remember how excited I was as a 9 year-old, going along to collect our brand new car). Now that my parents have immigrated to Canada, I simply cannot afford to maintain it to the standard in which I want it to be. However, I did recently spend a couple hundred, by having repaired a number of things to improve the car. This included a replacement driver’s seatbelt unit, replacement headlamp reflector unit, driver’s electric window repair, replacement cassette radio. Sadly having done the repairs and a full service & MOT, some idiot bumped into the driver’s side whilst it was parked damaging both doors.

The engine still sounds good and I believe it has quite a few miles left. However it does run hotter than normal and the water needs topping up every few hundred miles. The cooling system/radiator may need to be looked at. The passenger door handle opens both from the inside and outside, but the key does not go into the lock – needs realigning after the mechanism was repaired. Has a relatively new exhaust, (replaced in the last couple of years).

This car has been serviced annually, initially at Volvo (Continental Cars, Essex) and then at a reliable local garage for the last 15 or so years.

Tyres are good and it has an unused Pirelli spare in the boot.

With some work this car can be made into something respectable again.

The heated seats, electric windows, wipers, power steering and fog lights work.

Not working:
Central locking
Sunroof (in closed position) – mechanism broke last summer
A rear door outside handle doesn’t work (mechanism).
Passenger lumber adjustment
Cigarette lighter
Driver’s Door mirror
Clock
Reading light. (I am using a battery-powered stick-on light)

Working but not perfectly.
Indicator stalk. One of the plastic connections to central unit broke. Does not automatically cancel.

The body work is generally rust-free, (apart from on the damaged doors and a small area on the boot lid), but has scratches.

Can anyone give it a dignified retirement?

If so, my number is 07952 218638

or email me at marcus9@gmail.com

Thanks for looking,

Marcus

I wish to add that the car starts up fine and has not failed me once during the winter.

Any offers shall be considered. I am based in Grays in Essex.

Hi folks, I think I will reduce the price to £50. The car is working and drives well. It obviously needs a bit of work and could be a decent restoration project.

If by the end of Friday, no-one wants it, I'll have to sell it to the Volvo scrap dealer.

Marcus

Ps: Thanks Steve, I would happily swap it for yours! : )

I can't really afford it as i've explained to Marc as it'd cost me much more to go and pick that up and repair it with parts off mine.

I've worked it out like this

Cost of getting mine from recovery - £185
Cost of buying mine plus petrol - £125
Cost of train to Marcs house - £20
Cost of Petrol to get back - £35
Cost of Car - £50

That means it'd cost me £415 and I cant justify spending that on a 360 when you can pick up a good one for ~£100.

Hopefully im gonna pick up a decent one and will sell all the spares off my crashed one to recoup some money.

Doors aside, that car is far, far too nice to be scrapped. If all else fails...eBay?

Thanks for your interest guys. Unfortunately, the 360 is no longer available.....

But I am pleased to say that a gentleman did buy it over the weekend and intends to improve it. I agree with James that it's too good for the scrapheap, and hopefully the new owner will give it a new lease of life.

Maybe one day when I have the space, I'll be able to find a minty 360 to buy back. They are true Volvos - well built driver's cars with RWD. As the saying goes, 'they don't make them like they used to'.

Marcus
