Seriously do it! Had a welder on my old Sierra and that was a daily, best mod ever and it cost next to bu**er all too. Stiff suspension and a welded diff are the best mods to any RWD car 8)

I know sum1 who would weld the diff up for free and guide me through the removal/refitting process - but he's all the way up north!! Arent u mate!

I'll get round to it - would welding the diff de-value the car/limit the potential interest from a new owner...?

Absolutely and totally. Once you go down that route, it's passing "the point of no return" ;-)

360 GLT saloons are quite rare actually, it seems a bit of a pity to turn it into a trampdrifter TBH, particularly as there are loads of rattier versions around (in the UK anyway ...)

Cheers

Yeah - as I mentioned its not a long term car - just a one that came up cheap and sumthign to practise in. So if its worth more in standard form then I'd probs lower it and thats all - even leave the current wheels on. Or find a spare diff to weld up and swap back...

sort of man.
I'm sure it'd make it appeal more to someone that wanted to strip and skid it.
And much less to someone that wanted a dailly runner for the long term.
There's been countless people on here bought one cheap, stripped it, welded the diff, got bored after a couple of month and had real trouble trying to move it on.
But as you're keeping your interior STD I cant see it being too much if a problem.
Though it'll be narrowing your resale Market somewhat if you're deff gonna sell it on.

For free he says

Dude, get a spare open diff and swap back. IMO even if you do weld the only diff up it's surely not going to devalue the car by THAT much. It's not as iif our cars cost a fortune anyway. Anyone after a GLT saloon would be able to put it back stock should they fel the need.

Yours will be like mine, not exactly a 'drifter' just a daily (well, next month for you) that you can have fun in. Not like either of us go twatting ARMCO and cones every weekend is it!

As Robinxr4i says though, a MiG'd diff and stiff suspension is a dream for when you want to slide. Not exactly ideal for all the other times though! Think parallel parking in tight spots lol.

find 2 then?

What differences would there be between a 1.7 diff and 2.0 etc? Not just different torque tubes and same diff/casing across the range? Or would that be too simple...

I'm only guessing here, but I think the gearbox is a different shape as one is Volvo and one Renault where it bolts to the diff (bell housing?) so it's a no go. 360 drive trains are slightly stronger but I don't know if that is down to the torque tube rather than the box/diff themselves.

Find TWO 360 open diffs? We will be lucky. I hear they pull a premium one week before Race Wars. :(
