What do i do?

Post by theo2468 » 27 Sep 2011 05:51 pm

just been sent this off the guy who the louvre.

"You kindly bid on my Volvo 300 louvres and just missed winning.

I have received the following from the winning bidder and he has agreed that I can pass on his contact details to you, which I prefer to do rather than let him have your contact details.

He writes "Hi mate i got the parcel through the other day, item is great but too small for my requirements, my fault i should have asked or measurements as i intended to fit this to an old golf, thought i may get away with some modifying. Anyway if it was possible would you be able to give me the details of the 2nd in line bidder. i was going to mail him/her and see if they would want it. thanks"

I don't know this guy, but the item left me in perfect condition; I shall leave it to you as to whether or not you want to contact him."

what shall i do? if anyone wants it and i dont have it i can get it for them!

Get it. But don't let any money go until you see it. Or use paypal.

I'd be very careful about this kind of thing, although a 300 louvre is an odd thing to to do a scam on, very obscure!

Could explain why the price went so high, as we all know VW parts are worth so much more than any other car parts

Also you have to remember that the price might not have gone nearly so high if he hadn't been bidding so its not fair to expect the auction to set the price on what you bid. The best way to do it is for him to put it up on ebay again, but you might not win it next time and it might go even higher

As Speedy said don't part with any money till you're sure you've got it or a failsafe agreement has been made. If it's reasonably local to you or someone who can pick it up for you then I'd pay on collection/delivery only. Don't forget quite a few of us are driving around the country this weekend so may be able to pick it up and bring it to the meet.

What part of the country is he in?

Not sure where he is.
I wish I was coming to the meet
I think I would get it cheaper if he put it back on eBay as he's the only guy who was bidding against me after 150.
But its still a risk and he could offer it to the next guy.

What a heid-the-baw. I do despair sometimes.

Anyway, I'd tell Heid-the-baw to put it back on the 'bay and let the market decide, rather than a second-chance-esque back offer to try and salvage some cash for being a complete plank.

Basically thanks to said auction, imo the price for these has been set now. If I was to sell mine then I would be looking for a similar figure, not that I intend to though.

So if I was the guy who won it I would be listing it as a BIN OBO eBay auction (as with all my stuff). Let's hope for your sake that he doesn't!

As for getting it cheaper if it is relisted as an auction then I wouldn't bet on it mate. eBay bidding follows no known human pattern! The day I am able to isolate the algorythym for constant and predictible bidding I will become be a very rich man indeed.

Email the winner. Offer him some loot, see if you can find a middle ground. If by some chance he is willing to accept less then the only way I personally would buy it from him is in person.

Hi Theo.
I would just tell him to get it back on the bay unless you are realy
desparete and wealthy. Of course he could be an even bigger berk
and cut his losses by giving it to you for a cheaper price. I do not
think it was worth all that money.

It may be a little overvalued, but a brand new one in the packet went for nigh on £200 a couple of years back.

That's still worth about £200 imo. Can't blame the lad for looking to get back what it has cost him (minus his postage).
Looks like he tried the same trick as me when I won a NOS mk1 Escort item and had similar plans.

You can blame him for being a chump though.

It's worth what someone is prepared to pay, which by all accounts is around £160 ish
